About the role
Etheredge Mintern is an established Melbourne civil construction contractor delivering infrastructure projects across local government, commercial and private sectors.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager – Civil Construction to join our team and take full ownership of a portfolio of civil construction projects from handover through to completion.
This is not a Project Coordinator role.
We are looking for someone who can be handed multiple projects, take responsibility for them, lead the delivery teams and ensure each project is delivered safely, on time and profitably.
You will work closely with the Director, Construction Manager, supervisors and our broader delivery team, while having the autonomy and authority to manage your projects effectively.
The RoleYou will have end-to-end responsibility for multiple civil construction projects, including:
· Taking ownership of projects from estimating/tender handover through to completion
· Developing and maintaining construction programs
· Planning labour, plant, materials and subcontractor requirements
· Managing supervisors, foremen, subcontractors and project resources
· Maintaining strong relationships with councils, clients, superintendents and consultants
· Managing project budgets and monitoring actual costs against forecast
· Preparing and reviewing progress claims
· Identifying, pricing and managing variations
· Managing Extensions of Time and contractual correspondence
· Procurement of subcontractors, materials and services
· Monitoring productivity and project performance
· Identifying commercial and delivery risks early and implementing solutions
· Ensuring projects meet quality, safety and environmental requirements
· Conducting regular project reviews and financial forecasting
· Driving projects through Practical Completion, defects and final close-out
· Providing clear reporting to senior management on project performance, risks and opportunities
About YouWe are looking for an experienced civil construction professional who understands that successful project management is about more than simply getting the work built.
You will ideally have:
· Significant experience managing civil construction projects
· Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
· Strong experience in local government and/or civil infrastructure projects
· A strong understanding of project financials, budgets, margins and forecasting
· Experience with progress claims, variations, EOTs and contract administration
· Strong programming and construction planning skills
· The ability to manage supervisors, subcontractors and construction crews
· Excellent client and stakeholder management skills
· Strong commercial awareness
· The confidence to make decisions and take ownership
· A practical understanding of civil construction methodology
· Strong organisational and communication skills
· A focus on delivering profitable outcomes, not simply completing projects
Experience across road reconstruction, drainage, concrete works, car parks, streetscapes, pavements and general civil infrastructure would be highly regarded.
The Person We’re Looking ForThis role will suit someone who wants ownership and responsibility.
We don’t want someone who needs to be constantly followed up or told what to do next.
We want someone who looks ahead, identifies problems early, communicates clearly and takes responsibility for the outcome of their projects.
You should be equally comfortable walking a site with a supervisor, discussing a variation with a client, reviewing a construction program and sitting down to analyse the financial performance of your projects.
Most importantly, you will treat the projects you manage as though they are your own business — understanding that safety, quality, client relationships, program and profitability all matter.
Why Join Etheredge Mintern? This is an opportunity to join an established civil contractor where you can have a genuine influence on how projects are delivered.
You will work directly with senior management and be trusted to run your projects rather than being micromanaged.
For the right person, there is significant opportunity to grow with the business and take on greater responsibility as the company develops.
We offer:
· A senior role with genuine project ownership
· Direct access to company decision-makers
· Autonomy to manage and deliver your projects
· A varied portfolio of civil infrastructure projects
· A supportive and experienced construction team
· Competitive remuneration based on experience
· Vehicle and associated benefits to be discussed
· Genuine long-term career progression
