About the role
About Roadways
Roadways is a long-established Tasmanian civil construction business with operations across the state. We deliver road surfacing, linemarking and related infrastructure services for government, council, commercial and private clients.
As a Tasmanian business, we are proud of our local capability, long-term client relationships and practical, safety-focused approach to delivering quality outcomes across the civil construction sector.
About the Role
We are seeking a Commercial Performance Analyst to join our Finance team, based at Glenorchy.
This is a newly focused role that will help turn project, operational and financial data into clear, practical insight. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, divisional managers and project teams, you will support better decision-making across contract performance, delivery efficiency, margin protection and future pricing.
This role is suited to someone who enjoys getting beneath the numbers, understanding what is really driving performance, and translating complex information into clear, decision-ready reporting.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
· Analyse project and contract performance against tender, budget, forecast and programs.
· Review profitability, margin trends, cost-to-complete and emerging commercial risks.
· Monitor progress claims, variations, rise-and-fall adjustments and revenue timing.
· Develop and maintain operational performance metrics, including production rates, plant and crew utilisation, downtime, rework and mobilisation efficiency.
· Compare tender assumptions with delivered outcomes and identify learnings for future pricing, estimating and contract planning.
· Work with operations and finance teams to improve data accuracy, job costing, cost allocation and reporting visibility.
· Prepare clear performance reports, dashboards and commentary for management and executive review.
· Partner with operational teams to understand the delivery realities behind the numbers.
About You
You will be commercially minded, analytical and comfortable working across both finance and operations. You do not need to come from a purely accounting background, but you will need strong financial and data analysis skills and the ability to communicate insights clearly.
You will bring:
· A tertiary qualification in commerce, finance, accounting, engineering, construction management, data analytics or a related discipline — or equivalent experience.
· Approximately 3–6 years’ experience in commercial analysis, project controls, business performance, financial analysis or a similar role.
· Strong Excel skills and experience working with reporting, financial or job-costing systems.
· Sound understanding of budgets, forecasts, margins, variations, progress claims and cost-to-complete concepts.
· Strong attention to detail and the ability to work within data constraints
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders, understand context, and produce clear reporting.
· High integrity and discretion when handling confidential commercial and financial information.
· A current driver’s licence.
· Experience in civil construction, infrastructure, road surfacing, asset management or another project-based environment would be highly regarded.
Why Join Roadways?
This is an opportunity to take on a role where your analysis will help drive better commercial and project outcomes.
You will work across finance and operations, gain exposure to a broad range of projects and stakeholders, and help shape stronger reporting, better decision-making and improved commercial outcomes across the business.
You will be joining a long-established Tasmanian company with statewide operations and a practical, hands-on culture where your analysis will directly support real business decisions.
Employment Conditions
This is a full-time, ongoing position based at Glenorchy, with periodic travel to Roadways sites, depots and project locations across Tasmania as required.
An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate, commensurate with skills and experience.
