Housekeeping Shift Leader

About the role

The Housekeeping Room Attendant / Shift Leader is a hands-on housekeeping position with additional responsibility for coordinating the housekeeping operation during allocated shifts. The role is responsible for personally cleaning and preparing guest apartments while also helping organize the daily workload, supporting other housekeeping staff, inspecting completed apartments, identifying maintenance and presentation issues, and ensuring the property is ready for arriving guests. This is not a desk-based supervisory role. The successful employee will spend the majority of their shift working alongside the housekeeping team.

Key responsibilities

• Cleaning and preparing guest apartments to the required property standard, including making beds, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, living areas and bedrooms, vacuuming and mopping floors
• Removing rubbish and replacing guest amenities, checking linen, bedding, towels and other guest supplies
• Completing departure cleans and scheduled mid-stay services
• Reviewing the day's departures, arrivals, stayovers and special requirements when rostered as Shift Leader
• Helping allocate apartments and other duties amongst the housekeeping team and ensuring staff understand their workload and priorities
• Monitoring progress throughout the shift and reallocating work where required to ensure apartments are completed on time
• Assisting less experienced employees with training and correct cleaning procedures
• Conducting apartment inspections and following up incomplete or substandard work before an apartment is released
• Greeting and speaking with guests professionally, attending apartments when guests report housekeeping or minor property problems, and resolving straightforward housekeeping issues
• Checking apartments for damage, faults or deterioration, reporting maintenance issues and taking photographs where helpful

About you

• Previous experience in hotel or resort housekeeping, serviced apartments, holiday accommodation, caravan parks, motel operations, or accommodation supervision
• An excellent cleaner with high personal standards
• Organized and able to prioritize
• Able to lead a small team and communicate clearly
• Able to write clear notes and reports
• Confident speaking with guests
• Comfortable making sensible decisions independently and knowing when something needs to be escalated
• Able to train another employee patiently and correctly
• Works efficiently without sacrificing quality
• Physically capable of working in two-storey apartments and completing normal housekeeping duties
• Dependable and available across a seven-day hospitality operation, including weekends and public holidays as rostered
