Public Practice Accountant

We're looking for an experienced Accountant – Public Practice to join our Melbourne team.

We're seeking an accountant with 3+ years' Australian Public Practice experience who can confidently manage compliance work, build strong client relationships and make an immediate contribution to our growing team.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of their work, values strong client relationships and is looking to build a long-term career within a respected and growing firm.

Working with a diverse portfolio of clients across a range of industries, you'll provide professional accounting and taxation services while building trusted relationships with your clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals.

• Preparing and lodging Business Activity Statements (BAS) and IAS.

• Preparing payroll and payroll reconciliations, including year-end payroll compliance.

• Completing bank, balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations.

• Assisting clients with bookkeeping and advanced Xero support.

• Preparing workpapers and maintaining accurate client records.

• Responding to client enquiries in a professional and timely manner.

• Identifying opportunities to improve client processes and outcomes.

We're looking for someone who can confidently step into the role with minimal supervision and become a valued member of our team.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• 3+ years' Australian Public Practice experience.

• The ability to independently prepare financial statements and income tax returns.

• Strong knowledge of Australian taxation, GST and payroll obligations.

• Advanced experience using Xero – this is a core requirement of the role.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• A genuine passion for building long-term client relationships and providing practical solutions.

• A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.

• CA or CPA qualified (or currently studying).

• Experience with Xero Practice Manager and other cloud-based accounting software.

This is a full-time position, with standard business hours of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

$80,000 – $90,000 plus superannuation

Salary will be negotiated based on experience and capability.
