About the role:

Victoria Police is committed to making Victoria a safer place by preventing and reducing harm caused by young people and harm done to young people. Victoria Police acknowledges that offending by young people is often a symptom of an intersectional range of issues, including mental health, substance use, trauma and disadvantage, and that further support is needed. For this reason, reducing harm is not a problem that can be addressed by Victoria Police alone: it is a challenge facing the whole community. Victoria Police has introduced an enhanced cautioning model developed in partnership with community services to achieve better outcomes for eligible young people in contact with police. This program is known as the Youth Crime Prevention and Early Intervention Program (YCPEIP).

An exciting opportunity exists for a full-time fixed term VPS 4 Youth Crime Coordinator to oversee the localised operation of the YCPEIP at Werribee Police Station. As the successful applicant, you will be supporting the effective operation and ongoing expansion of the YCPEIP in select locations across Victoria. The advertised position will support the Wyndham Police Service Area and will involve working collaboratively with local police and community services to identify opportunities to further enhance the program and adapt its operation to suit localised needs.

Your duties will include:

• Liaising with local police and community services on matters relating to the YCPEIP
• Monitoring the operation of the YCPEIP in your area
• Preparing written updates addressing outcomes of the YCPEIP in your area
• Providing advice to internal and external stakeholders on emerging issues or opportunities to improve justice outcomes for young people
• Presenting at meetings or forums, as required

 About You:

 The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

•  A desire to improve justice outcomes for young people
• The proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as required
• Demonstrated experience in program delivery and monitoring
• Prior experience in roles focused on the provision of services to young people, including young people in contact with police or the criminal justice system
• Demonstrated knowledge of the youth service sector and contemporary issues relevant to young people involved in the justice system

 Further information:

•  One (1) x full-time VPS 4, fixed-term position (expiring 30 June 2028, with possibility of extension) at Werribee Police Station, North West Metro Region
• The successful applicant will likely be required to travel and attend the different police stations in each PSA, but their primary location will be at one of the police stations listed above.
• The successful candidate will be required to hold a Working with Children Check.
• The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen OR applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
• The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
• The successful candidate will be required to possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority withing three (3) months.
