Head of Estimating 

An influential leadership role shaping how Ascot Group identifies, prices and wins the right work. 

Ascot Group is entering its next stage of growth, creating an opportunity to further strengthen our national estimating, pre-construction and strategic bid capability. 

We are looking for an experienced construction estimating leader who can build on the foundations already in place, bring greater consistency across the business and ensure our estimating capability continues to evolve alongside our ambitions. 

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Estimating will work across Growth, Operations, Commercial and Finance to influence which opportunities we pursue, how we position ourselves to win and whether the commercial proposition is right for Ascot Group. 

This role sits at the centre of our most important opportunities. 

It brings together deep technical estimating expertise, commercial judgement and market insight to challenge methodology, interrogate pricing, identify risk and strengthen the overall bid strategy. It also plays an important role in connecting the thinking behind the estimate with the teams responsible for delivering the project. 

Beyond individual tenders, the focus is on creating a strong and connected national approach. That means continuing to develop our systems, cost intelligence, supply-chain relationships and estimating methodology while supporting the capability and growth of the team. 

We are looking for someone who has seen what great estimating looks like and knows how to apply that experience in a growing Tier 3 environment. 

Someone commercially sharp and technically credible, with the confidence to challenge an assumption, identify a better solution or recommend that we walk away when the commercial proposition is not right. 

The right person will bring: 

• Deep estimating and pre-construction experience within a Tier 3 or Tier 2 commercial construction environment. 
• A strong track record across competitive, negotiated and strategically important bids. 
• Expert capability in first-principles estimating, cost planning, construction methodology and tender adjudication. 
• Strong commercial judgement across margin, contractual risk, procurement strategy and project-specific risk. 
• Contemporary knowledge of construction pricing, subcontractor markets and supply-chain conditions. 
• The leadership capability to bring people together, share expertise and continue strengthening a national function.
