About the role
Wesley Mission is a multi-faceted Christian organisation making a real difference in the community. We work with the most disadvantaged in our community by providing over 200 services ranging from aged care, homeless services, child and family care, counselling, employment, training and education, and health services.
Our Vision is “A Spirit-led disciple-making movement: doing all the good we can because every life matters”.
Commencing July 2026, Wesley Mission is growing its GambleAware services, extending our reach across Blue Mountains & Western Sydney, Central Sydney, South West Sydney, and North Sydney & Central Coast. This expansion reflects our longstanding commitment to harm reduction and ensures more individuals, families and communities can access timely, high-quality support for gambling related harm.
GambleAware program delivers a stepped, multimodal and person-centred approach to supporting individuals, families and communities affected by gambling harm. Our work spans early intervention, therapeutic counselling, community engagement and education—focused not only on responding to harm, but also on reducing stigma, strengthening community capacity and increasing help seeking.
We work collaboratively with local services, community partners and stakeholders to create accessible pathways to care and ensure support is responsive, culturally informed and grounded in best practice harm reduction principles.
As part of Wesley Mission’s expanding GambleAware team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, compassionate financial counselling support to individuals experiencing gambling related harm or who may be at risk. Your work will help ensure people receive timely, respectful and empowering assistance during periods of financial stress and vulnerability.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, our specialist GambleAware Financial Counsellors support clients to actively engage in addressing their financial situation. The service is grounded in an empowerment focused approach and includes a broad range of activities such as financial counselling, assessment, education, information provision, option exploration, negotiation, advocacy, mediation, cashflow management support, personal financial management, referrals, and the delivery of financial education programs.
Financial Counselling also acts as a key entry point to wrap‑around support services, ensuring clients are connected to holistic and coordinated care. Through close collaboration with internal teams and external partners, the service supports sustainable outcomes and strengthens pathways to recovery across the GambleAware program.
Wesley Mission is a Christian organisation requiring all staff to affirm its values. We are committed to providing an environment in which children can feel safe and valued.
The suitable applicant will be subject to the relevant pre-employment checks for appointment to positions within Wesley Mission (including provision of a valid Working with Children Check clearance number). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
