• Full time - Maternity relief for up to 12 months

• $86,099 – $97,928 per annum (depending on skills and experience), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading, and access to salary packaging (Salary Sacrifice Super and/or Novated Car Lease). This includes a base salary and the set $8,099 All Incidence of Employment Allowance. 

Electorate officers are the initial point of contact for all constituent enquiries in office of Members of Parliament. The role requires excellent oral and written communication, administrative and secretarial functions and excellent people skills.

This includes meeting with constituents and other stakeholders, representing and accompanying the member at community events and mobile offices, preparing speech notes, briefs, media releases and social media content. The position requires someone competent drafting correspondence and responding to telephone and email enquiries, and liaising with Government and community based agencies. 

This position would suit a highly motivated person, with excellent problem solving skills, who wants to help people with referrals to a broad range of state issues including health, education, transport, state roads, housing, mental health and community services.

Selection Criteria

1. Excellent writing skills including the ability to prepare correspondence, briefing notes, submissions, speeches, newsletters and media releases.

2. Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to hear from and liaise with community groups, government and non-government organisations, and the media.

3. Superior organisational skills to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines.

4. Capacity to exercise sound judgement and ability to perform at a high standard under limited supervision and within a team environment.

5. An interest in, and understanding of, the Australian political context and Australian parliamentary procedures and processes particularly in NSW.

6. Excellent computer skills in database management, Microsoft office suite, web content management systems and social media skills.

7. Willingness to work irregular hours (nights, early mornings and weekends) as required;

8. An understanding of the work of a parliamentary staffer and current driver’s licence is not essential but preferable; and

9. Tertiary qualifications in a related field or equivalent industry experience would be an advantage.

Salary & entitlements:

A commencing salary between $78,099 – $89,829 (+ superannuation). An additional All Incidence of Employment allowance of $8,099 is also payable in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work).

A modest training allowance is available, and you will have the ability to salary package superannuation contributions (salary sacrifice) and motor vehicles (novated lease). Pre-approved travel to Sydney to undertake your role will be reimbursed. 

The position is full-time, a standard 6 month probationary period applies to all new appointees.
