Piling & Earthworks - Foreman/Leading Hand

About the role

National Civil & Foundations Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Piling & Earthworks Foremans/Leading Hands to join our growing team in Melbourne, VIC. This is a full-time position that offers the opportunity to lead and manage piling and earthworks operations on significant construction projects. As Foreman/Leading Hand, you will be responsible for overseeing daily site operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and delivering projects on time and within budget. This role is critical to the success of our projects and offers the chance to make a tangible impact on major construction endeavours across Melbourne.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and manage piling and earthworks crews, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards

• Plan and coordinate daily site activities, including equipment allocation, task scheduling and resource management

• Conduct toolbox meetings and safety briefings to maintain a strong safety culture on site

• Monitor and inspect work quality to ensure it meets project specifications and contractual requirements

• Liaise with project managers, clients and other trades to ensure effective communication and project coordination

• Maintain accurate site records, including time sheets, material usage, incident reports and daily logs

• Operate and maintain piling and earthworks equipment, troubleshooting issues as required

• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs

• Mentor and develop junior site staff, fostering a collaborative team environment

• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and site-specific requirements

What we're looking for

• Minimum 5–7 years' experience in piling and earthworks operations, with substantial supervisory or leading hand experience

• Comprehensive knowledge of piling techniques, CFA piling, bored piling & rock drilling methodologies

• Proficiency in earthworks operations such as excavation, grading, compaction and site preparation

• Strong understanding of construction safety standards, including OHS legislation, site safety requirements and incident management

• Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate teams effectively in a fast-paced construction environment

• Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively

• Competency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications and site plans

• Current construction industry qualifications, including a White Card.

• Licensed to operate relevant plant and equipment, such as excavators and rollers are advantageous.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders

• Preferred: Experience with construction management software and digital site documentation tools
