About Us?

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.

The Regional and Specialist team includes Integrated Specialist Services, Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, Primary Healthcare Services, Birthing and Early Childhood Services (South), and Child and Youth Services. Our purpose is to connect, guide, and empower teams and communities through culturally safe, transparent, and responsive ways.

About the Role?

As an Occupational Therapist within our team, you will provide culturally appropriate OT services as part of a multi- disciplinary team. Our services are provided within a system of care that walks alongside clients in their health journey. The role will service our clinics based predominantly in Waterford West (Brisbane South), with full-time and part-time opportunities available.

What does it look like to be an IUIH Occupational Therapist?

• Work collaboratively within an interprofessional team of health care professionals including Speech Pathologists, Physios, EPs, Podiatrists, GPs, AHWs, Specialists, and more. As a collaborative team we work together to provide client-centred care.
• Work in a variety of settings such as primary health care clinics, home visits, educations programs, and other community settings.
• Opportunities to contribute to continuing innovative health service development.
• Commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health.

Your day-to-day duties may include:

• Clinic based Paediatric caseload – working with Speech Pathologists and other allied health in Inter Professional Practice model
• Multidisciplinary team (MDT) assessment clinics that involve a team including a Paediatrician, Paediatric Nurse, Psychologist, Speech Pathologist and an occupational therapist.  MDT assessment at IUIH is where a group of highly skilled professionals come together to complete a comprehensive & holistic play based assessment for children with complex neurodevelopmental difficulties.
• Kindy program – IUIH SPOT services work alongside the kindergarten staff to further support the experiences and learning for children attending Deadly Kindys in collaboration with existing kindy programs and routines.
• Offers short-term and long-term support for clients
• Collaborative environment with various disciplines (including podiatrists, physiotherapists, dieticians, GPs, Nurses, Child Health Nurses and more)
• Support from Allied Health Assistants

About You?

• Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
• AHPRA Registration
• Current Disability Worker Screening Check (Qld Yellow Card)
• Bachelor in Occupational Therapy
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificates

Desirable, but not mandatory:

• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
