Cemeteries Officer

Mount Barker District Council is seeking a compassionate Cemeteries Officer to provide trusted administrative management of Council’s cemeteries and help lead the digitisation of this important community service. Reporting to the Manager Property, you will combine sensitive customer service with sound governance, practical planning and confident stakeholder engagement.

In this varied role, you will manage cemetery services in line with Council policy and legislation, maintain reporting and compliance requirements, oversee the cemetery budget and contribute to forward planning for operations and memorial services. You will undertake regular cemetery inspections, deliver moderately complex projects and use initiative and professional judgement to resolve sensitive, unique or non-routine matters. A key focus will be supporting the investigation, implementation and ongoing management of a new cemetery management system. You will also work closely with colleagues, community interest groups, government agencies, funeral service providers and interment rights holders, while helping develop policies, procedures and guidance that strengthen service delivery and continuous improvement.

You will bring tertiary qualifications in administration, customer service or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience, together with at least two years’ experience in customer service or cemetery operations. You will be comfortable supporting people experiencing bereavement, grief or other emotional circumstances, and will demonstrate empathy, discretion and professionalism. Experience in a government environment or the cemetery industry will be highly regarded. This position is a .6FTE permanent role. Salary Range $106,960 - $111,686 (pro rata for part time hour) plus Superannuation.
