About the role
Position SummaryThe Social & Digital Media Officer at National Indigenous Times (NIT) supports the delivery of the organisation’s social media strategy, brand promotion, and digital engagement initiatives across National Indigenous Times, Indigenous Business Review, Style Up & Global Indigenous Times.
Reporting to the Social & Digital Media Coordinator, the Officer helps produce, schedule and monitor social media content, assists with marketing campaigns, and supports the visibility of lifestyle and news content across all platforms.
This role requires creativity, attention to detail, cultural awareness, and a strong interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander media, arts, business and community affairs. The Officer plays a key support role in growing NIT’s digital footprint and audience reach.
Key ResponsibilitiesSocial Media Content Creation and SchedulingDraft, schedule and publish social media posts across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Spotify, and X.Assist in preparing captions, headlines, hashtags and tags that are culturally appropriate and audience-relevant.Support the promotion of breaking news, feature articles, lifestyle content, opinion pieces and special editions.Maintain the social media content calendar in coordination with the Coordinator.Visual Content and Campaign SupportAssist in designing visual assets for social media and marketing using Canva or similar tools (e.g. tiles, quote cards, announcement graphics).Support the execution of digital components of commercial campaigns, sponsored content, and branded partnerships.Monitoring and EngagementMonitor audience engagement and assist in responding to messages, comments and enquiries across social channels.Help flag trending content, audience feedback or reputational risks for the attention of the Coordinator.Support real-time posting or live coverage during events, launches or campaign periods as required.Analytics and ReportingAssist in tracking social media metrics using tools such as Meta Business Suite, Instagram Insights, or Google Analytics.Provide data and screenshots for periodic reports prepared by the Coordinator.Help analyse which stories and formats are performing well to guide future content planning.Marketing and Editorial SupportSupport the preparation and scheduling of regular email newsletters.Assist with uploading marketing material to the website or e-commerce platforms when required.Help identify opportunities for promoting lifestyle content, especially stories aligned with the Style Up brand.Reporting RelationshipsReports to: Social & Digital Media CoordinatorSecondary Reporting Line: Managing DirectorInternal Relationships: Editorial Team, Journalists, Business Development ManagerExternal Relationships: Community contributors, readers, followers, content creators
