About the Role

The Behaviour Support Practitioner (Counsellor) provides counselling, rehabilitation and specialist behaviour support services to people experiencing disability, psychosocial disadvantage or other barriers affecting their independence and participation in community life. The role assesses participants’ behavioural, psychosocial, vocational and social needs; develops and reviews individual rehabilitation and behaviour support plans; provides counselling and coordinated referrals; and supports participants to achieve meaningful community, educational, vocational and quality-of-life outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive client assessments to identify vocational, educational, psychosocial, behavioural and rehabilitation needs.
• Obtain and evaluate information relating to clients’ abilities, skills, interests, health conditions, support needs and personal circumstances to determine appropriate rehabilitation and behaviour support strategies.
• Develop, implement, monitor and review individual rehabilitation plans addressing clients’ vocational, educational, social and community participation needs.
• Provide vocational counselling and career guidance to assist clients in identifying suitable employment, education or training pathways where relevant to their rehabilitation goals.
• Support clients to identify and develop skills relevant to employment, education, training or other meaningful community roles.
• Provide counselling to assist clients in managing the psychological, emotional, behavioural and social impacts of injury, illness, disability or unemployment.
• Present alternative strategies and support clients to develop positive coping mechanisms, improve resilience and achieve behavioural change where appropriate.
• Coordinate referrals to medical practitioners, allied health professionals, education and training providers, employers and community support services to facilitate rehabilitation outcomes.
• Liaise with service providers, community organisations, education and training providers, employers, government agencies and other relevant stakeholders to support rehabilitation and participation outcomes.
• Provide information and guidance regarding community services, education programs, vocational training and employment opportunities.
• Undertake functional behaviour assessments and develop, implement, monitor and review evidence-informed behaviour support plans that improve quality of life and reduce behaviours of concern.
• Provide guidance and training to participants, families and support teams to support consistent implementation of behaviour support strategies in accordance with relevant NDIS requirements, including restrictive practice safeguards.
• Maintain accurate, confidential and timely case notes, assessments, rehabilitation plans, behaviour support plans, progress reports and other required client records.
• Monitor client progress, evaluate rehabilitation and behaviour support outcomes and adjust intervention strategies as required.
• Provide clinical supervision, mentoring and case consultation to allocated practitioners within the employee’s demonstrated qualifications, competence and professional scope.
• Comply with relevant professional ethics, NDIS requirements, privacy legislation, workplace health and safety requirements and organisational policies.

About You

· A bachelor degree or higher qualification in Counselling, Rehabilitation Studies, Behavioural Science, Counselling, Psychology or another closely related discipline.

· At least one year of relevant post-qualification work experience in rehabilitation counselling, behaviour support, counselling or a closely related field.

· Knowledge of the NDIS framework, disability services and community supports, or demonstrated capacity to develop this knowledge with organisational guidance.

· Eligibility and demonstrated capacity to obtain suitability as an NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner and progress towards Proficient level, supported by previous experience delivering Applied Behaviour Analysis, Positive Behaviour Support or closely related services.

Desirable

· Experience conducting behavioural and biopsychosocial assessments and developing, implementing and reviewing individualised rehabilitation and behaviour support plans.

· Experience providing counselling and coordinated support addressing behavioural, psychosocial, vocational and community participation needs.

· Experience providing clinical supervision, mentoring, case consultation or professional guidance to other practitioners or team members.

· Experience working within the NDIS behaviour support sector

· Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or experience delivering staff training and professional development

Pay: $90,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year
