  • Level 6 Position, from $108,021 + 17% superannuation contributions and annual leave loading
  • Level 7 Position, from $118,483 + 17% superannuation contributions and annual leave loading
• Location: Kingsford Legal Centre, UNSW Kensington Campus, Sydney

For 45 years, KLC has been at the forefront of access to justice, providing free legal assistance to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities while shaping the next generation of legal professionals.

About the role

The Solicitor/Clinical Supervisor will provide legal advice, casework and community legal education in areas of law relevant to the Centre, with a focus on leading the Centre’s Family Violence and Family Law work. The position will also supervise advice nights and attend community outreaches. The position works closely with UNSW Law & Justice students teaching them in a best practice clinical legal education model.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced solicitor to make a meaningful impact through direct client work, student supervision, community engagement and law reform activities. Working across Family Violence and Family Law matters, you will provide high-quality legal assistance, contribute to community legal education initiatives and help strengthen access to justice for disadvantaged clients. You will play a key role strengthening the Centre’s connections in the community especially around family violence.

The role of Solicitor/Clinical Supervisor reports to the Director/Deputy Director and has legal supervision by the Principal Solicitor/Senior Solicitor.

The level of appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.  

Some Key Skills Required

• An ability to supervise students or volunteers, in accordance with risk management practices;
• An ability to deliver effective community legal education with an emphasis on key client groups;
• An ability to provide legal assistance to disadvantaged clients, in a trauma informed way;
• A demonstrated commitment to social justice and knowledge of the legal assistance sector;
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines;
• Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training including undertaking and maintaining all relevant health and police checks required to work in a hospital environment.

At Level 7 (in addition to the above):

• Experience acting as a nominated person or supervising solicitor;
• High level communication skills and experience communicating on law reform issues in a range of settings;
• Extensive experience in complex advice and casework for clients experiencing Family Violence/ family law issues;
• Extensive experience working in a community legal centre, or legal aid environment.
