Underwriting Analyst

Exciting opportunity to contribute to the entire product lifecycle, from ideation to implementation, across our Motorcycle, Caravan, Pet, and Travel insurance lines.

About the role 

The Underwriting Analyst plays a part in shaping and delivering a cutting-edge insurance solution products that align closely with Auto & General’s risk strategy and overarching product vision. In this role, you will be at the forefront of a diverse range of general insurance products, including Motorcycle, Pet and Travel, assisting with overseeing end-to-end product lifecycle activities, including product design, development, management and underwriting. 

You will assist with closely monitoring portfolio performance and identify opportunities for better customer value and service. Your contributions into robust risk selection, product development and effective portfolio management, will be crucial to the ongoing success of new and existing insurance products.

Key Responsibilities

• Product Innovation & Development: Contribute to the end-to-end product lifecycle, supporting the identification, design, development, and implementation of new and innovative Motorcycle, Caravan, Pet, and Travel insurance products, options, and benefits.
• Portfolio Optimisation: Assist with comprehensive market and competitor analysis to identify emerging trends, new opportunities, and areas for enhancement within our existing product portfolio.
• Product Enhancement: Support the continuous improvement and enhancement of our current product offerings, ensuring they remain competitive, compliant, and meet evolving customer needs.
• System & Underwriting Support: Participate in product development initiatives, including the testing and validation of product and underwriting-related system changes to ensure accuracy, functionality, and optimal performance.
• Project Delivery: Provide support for the day-to-day delivery of product-related projects and initiatives, with opportunities to lead specific assignments focused on investigating and validating system modifications.
• Reporting & Insights: Support with comprehensive departmental and operational reports, providing key insights and data analysis to support strategic business decisions and operational efficiency

What experience you’ll bring 
Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• 2+ years General Insurance experience; with knowledge and understanding of insurance products and underwriting essential. Exposure to product development and portfolio management will be highly regarded.
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory regimes, compliance and insurance legislation.
• Sound communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Sound problem-solving ability.
• Sound numerical and analytical skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work autonomously while maintaining focus.
• IT literacy and the ability to learn new systems.
• Working knowledge of common application software, e.g. MS Office & Google Suite.
• Ability to respond rapidly and positively to change and to work under pressure to deliver outcomes with competing priorities.

Desirable

• Tertiary qualification preferred.
• Experience in managing and completing user acceptance testing
