• Salary ranges from $133,348.00 to $146,945.00 pro rata + super & leave loading 

About the Role

As a Senior Project Officer in our Titles Assessments team, you will undertake detailed analysis of complex mining title applications, interpreting and applying legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks to support high-quality decision making and the responsible development of NSW's mineral resources.

As part of the Assessments and Systems team, you will provide expert advice on mining title matters, prepare high-quality ministerial and executive briefings and contribute to the assessment of applications that support exploration and mining across New South Wales. This is an opportunity to influence important outcomes at the intersection of resources, planning, regulation and government, while helping deliver safe and sustainable mining practices that benefit regional communities and the state.

About You

We are seeking an experienced assessment, planning or resources professional who combines strong analytical capability with excellent written communication skills. You enjoy working through complex legislative and policy matters, can confidently assess competing information and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations. You thrive in a collaborative environment, build productive stakeholder relationships and take pride in delivering high-quality work that supports sound government decision making.

As our ideal candidate, you will bring:

• Experience assessing complex applications against legislative, regulatory and policy frameworks
• Strong understanding of mining, environmental and planning legislation, with knowledge of relevant environmental and planning case law highly regarded
• Demonstrated experience preparing high-quality ministerial briefs, executive correspondence and decision-making documents
• Experience managing and responding to GIPA and parliamentary information requests
• Well-developed analytical, research and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex information and provide practical recommendations
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical or legislative concepts to diverse audiences
• Experience in planning, geoscience, natural resource management, mining, public administration or a related field
• Tertiary qualifications in town planning, geoscience or a related discipline are preferred, but not mandatory
• The ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced assessment environment

Essential Requirements

• Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in a related discipline such as Planning, Mining, law or Science.
• Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement.
