Job Description
We are seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer to join our Enabling Technologies group, with a focus on Surgical Automation and Visualization. This role will contribute to the design and development of advanced software solutions for orthopedic surgical navigation, machine interfaces, robotics, and augmented reality applications.
The Software Engineer will play a key role in building real-time, high-performance applications that integrate with optical navigation systems and surgical hardware to enhance surgeon workflows and improve patient outcomes. The ideal candidate is passionate about building robust, user-centric software in a highly regulated medical device environment and thrives in collaborative, cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain software applications using C# and Unity for orthopedic surgical navigation and visualization systems
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineering, clinical research, product management, and quality to define and deliver software requirements
Integrate and optimize optical navigation technologies for real-time surgical tracking and visualization
Support development of augmented reality and immersive visualization tools to enhance surgical planning and execution
Interface with hardware components such as cameras, tracking systems, and robotic platforms to enable system functionality
Participate in verification and validation activities in collaboration with V&V teams to ensure compliance with medical device standards and regulatory requirements
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software issues to ensure system reliability and performance • Document software architecture, design specifications, and testing procedures in alignment with development and regulatory standards
Follow Agile development practices and contribute to continuous improvement of software development processes
Support the development of scalable, maintainable, and high-performance software systems
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
2+ years of professional software development experience using C# and Unity
Experience developing software that interfaces with physical hardware systems (e.g., cameras, sensors, robotics, or tracking systems)
Strong understanding of optical navigation systems and their application in surgical or healthcare environments
Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC), version control systems (e.g., Git), and Agile methodologies
Experience with 3D visualization, real-time rendering, or game engine development
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in complex technical environments
Skills & Experience:
Experience in medical device software development, preferably within FDA/ISO-regulated environments.
Experience with robotic surgical systems, navigation platforms or other safety-critical technologies.
Knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics, particularly in orthopaedic applications.
Familiarity with cloud services, web technologies and REST APIs.
Experience with augmented reality, immersive visualisation or advanced visualisation technologies is desirable.
Strong software engineering, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on performance, reliability and scalability.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across software, hardware and clinical teams.
Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality software within project timelines and regulatory requirements.
Working Environment:
Primarily office/laboratory-based environment
Occasional travel to manufacturing sites, clinical validation settings, and surgeon training workshops
Hands-on interaction with surgical systems, navigation hardware, and testing equipment in both simulated and real-world environments
