Most trade jobs in Sydney mean a big site, a long commute and someone else's schedule.

This one doesn't. We're Buildfix — a national structural repair company, nearly 15 years in. We fix houses that are cracking, sinking or holding damp. Small residential jobs — most take a day or two, then you're on to the next house. No site sheds, no swipe-on gates, no six months staring at the same slab.

What the day actually looks like

Team-up with the crew in the eastern suburbs or south Sydney — start your day near home if you live that way — then head out to the job, wherever that day's house is. Could be twenty minutes away, could be across the city. Walk it with the homeowner, sort the plan between you, then on the tools: cutting in and installing HelicalBar™ — our crack-stitching system — grinding out, repointing, patching and making good. If you can run a drill and a cutting saw properly all day, you're most of the way there.

It's a small crew and the job's in front of you — you work it out between you and get it done. The blokes beside you today are the same ones in six months.

The work runs right across Sydney, with the occasional regional trip — Canberra, Newcastle and the like — travel covered, in our vehicles.

If you trained on British Gypsum systems — MultiFinish, bonding, float and set — or came up here on hard plaster and render, you'll know the difference between a patch that disappears and one you can see from the street. That's the standard.

Who this suits

• Plasterer, renderer or skimcoater — experienced, here or overseas

• Proper hands-on — comfortable on a drill, a cutting saw and a grinder all day

• Happy on the remedial work first — the finishing side comes after you've had training

• Right to deal with homeowners — you're in someone's house, not on a site

• Full driver's licence

• Eastern suburbs or south Sydney based (that's where the crews start), or the drive to job doesn't bother you

• It's not cash in hand and it's not ABN — it's on the books from day one, holidays, super paid, the lot

• It's not trowel work from Monday morning — the first months are structural, part of your training

• It's not local work every day — you start east or south, but the houses are all over Sydney

• It's not big-site work — small crew, small jobs, sorted between you

• It's not for someone passing through — we're hiring someone who's thinking six months or more
