About the role
Our client is a global multidisciplinary contractor with a strong track record across major civil infrastructure and building projects specialising in the design and construction of Transport, Civil and Energy Infrastructure projects across APAC.
The Role
Due to growth, they are looking to welcome a Senior Legal Counsel – Project Delivery - to their established legal team.
Day to day responsibilities will include:
Provide strategic legal advice to project directors, commercial managers and senior leadership on the full lifecycle of major projects, including contract interpretation, risk allocation, variations, extensions of time and payment claims.Lead the management and resolution of complex project disputes, including negotiation of settlements, preparation of claims and defences, and representation in adjudication, arbitration, mediation and litigation.Help draft, review and negotiate head contracts, subcontracts, consultancy agreements, deeds of variation and other project-related documentation to protect the company’s commercial and legal interests.Support project delivery teams with proactive legal risk identification and mitigation strategies, ensuring contractual obligations, notice requirements and time bars are properly managed.Instruct, manage and coordinate external legal counsel on high-value or complex matters, while controlling legal costs and ensuring consistent quality of advice across the portfolio.Advise on regulatory, safety, environmental and industrial relations issues arising on live projects, and support internal investigations or regulatory responses where required.Develop and deliver practical training and guidance materials for commercial, project and operational teams on key contractual processes, claims management and dispute avoidance.Contribute to continuous improvement of the company’s standard form contracts, dispute resolution procedures and lessons-learned processes based on project outcomes and emerging industry risks.
Ideal Candidate
8+ years post-qualification experience in construction law with a strong focus on disputes and claims (ideally gained in private practice or in-house with a major contractor or principal).Proven experience managing construction disputes on major infrastructure projects across road, rail, bridges and/or renewable energy.Strong working knowledge of D&C, EPC and PPP contract forms and the practical application of those contracts during delivery.Experience preparing and responding to formal claims, variation notices, delay claims and supporting expert evidence processes.Ability to lead disputes strategy on projects, support commercial and project teams, and brief senior executives.
