About the role
Profectus is seeking multiple experienced Network Cabling Technicians to support a network modernisation program for a client in Canberra. The program is replacing the switching estate across a number of sites, and this role covers the physical installation side of that rollout. The work involves racking and stacking new network switches, completing internal rack cabling to supplied rack diagrams and patching matrices, and un-racking and returning decommissioned equipment. Technicians attend in pairs and work through the sites one at a time as each location is planned and scheduled. Device configuration and structured cabling sit outside the scope of this role.
Key Responsibilities
Rack and stack new network switches at nominated client sites
Complete internal rack cabling in line with supplied rack diagrams and patching matrices
Install copper and fibre patch leads and optics such as SFPs supplied by the client
Un-rack decommissioned switches and return equipment to a designated storage location onsite
Maintain accurate labelling, cable management and rack presentation standards
Work in pairs onsite, with additional technicians attending where site size or layout requires
Check completed work against the supplied documentation and report any discrepancies before leaving site
Keep records of equipment installed and equipment removed at each site
Work to agreed site schedules and attendance windows, planned in advance with the client
Comply with site induction, access and work health and safety requirements at all times
Required Experience
Demonstrated experience racking, stacking and cabling network hardware in comms room or data centre environments
Hands on experience with internal rack cabling, including copper and fibre patch leads and optics
Ability to read and work accurately from rack diagrams, patching matrices and cable schedules
Experience decommissioning and removing network equipment, including safe handling and return of assets
Sound cable management, labelling and rack presentation practices
Experience working in occupied buildings with minimal disruption to building users
Ability to lift and handle network hardware safely, with sound manual handling practice
Reliable and punctual, with the ability to work as part of a two person onsite team
Own tools of trade suitable for rack and cabling work
Desirable Experience
Experience on a large scale switch replacement or network refresh program
Familiarity with Cisco and Arista switching hardware
Experience working across multi site environments
ACMA cabler registration, or a relevant trade or ICT qualification
Current driver licence
Construction induction card or equivalent
Security and Compliance Requirements
Must be a Permanent Resident or an Australian Citizen
A satisfactory national police check is required prior to commencement
