Our state-of-the-art 42 bed capacity ICU is part of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre precinct caring for patients with:
Major traumatic injuries
Respiratory failure
Haematological emergencies
Renal failure
Obstetric emergencies
Sepsis and multiorgan failure
Cardiothoracic surgery
Infectious disease
Neurology and neurosurgery
These programs are supported by the Nursing Education Department which comprises a team of experienced and dedicated ICU Clinical Nurse Educators who actively support participants during their transition into critical care nursing.
Programs Available
Registered Nurse Introduction to Specialty Education (RISE) - Intensive Care
The RISE program aims to support nurses to develop their clinical knowledge and skills in a specialty area of nursing practice. The ICU RISE program prepares Registered Nurses for the beginner level of specialty practice in the Intensive Care Unit. The program is designed to advance clinical practice by providing evidence-based theoretical and practical training alongside supported clinical practice. This can be a pathway for considered entry into the Graduate Certificate in Intensive Care.
About the Program
Graduate Certificate of Intensive Care Nursing- Deakin University
The Graduate Certificate of Intensive Care Nursing is provided through a partnership between RMH ICU and Deakin University. This program is designed to provide nurses with the theoretical concepts, clinical skills, and experience required to become a competent and professional clinical practitioner within the ICU. By successfully completing the Graduate Certificate program, the staff member becomes credentialed as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and receives the corresponding qualification allowance.
About the Program
Bridging Program - Intensive Care
The ICU Bridging program is designed for Registered Nurses who hold a post graduate qualification in critical care and would like a supported transition to working in Intensive Care. It aims to advance participants’ prior learning and skills to be able to provide comprehensive care within the ICU clinical specialty and expand evidence-based practice and critical thinking skills.
