About the role
Most graduate accounting jobs are a trap.
You spend years earning the degree, then land somewhere you process invoices in a corner, one of forty grads doing identical spreadsheets, years away from touching anything that actually matters.
This is not that role.
At Henderson, you sit directly beside our Finance Manager. You'll start with the fundamentals: accounts payable, accounts receivable, the day-to-day that keeps a fast-growing business running. But you won't be parked there. As you prove you can be trusted, your scope grows, your skills sharpen, and your career moves.
A Little About Us
Henderson is one of Australia's fastest-growing property groups. Our buyers agency has purchased over $1 billion in property and secures 83% of deals off-market. We've since scaled into asset management, business services, and beyond, all backed by one of the most powerful education-driven marketing engines in the country.
Behind all of that growth sits a finance function that has to keep pace. That's where you come in.
The Role
This is a hands-on finance role based in our Sydney office, working directly with our Finance Manager.
You'll own accounts payable and accounts receivable day-to-day, and act as the Finance Manager's right hand across the wider finance function. Think of it as a genuine learning seat: you'll see exactly how money moves through a scaling business, and you'll take on responsibility as fast as you can handle it.
Is This You?
A recent graduate: You've finished (or are about to finish) an accounting or commerce degree. Genuinely into finance: You're not chasing any grad job. You actually want a career in accounting. Sharp with detail: You're accurate with numbers and you don't do sloppy. Organised and reliable: You follow a process and you finish what you start. Coachable and hungry: You want feedback, you act on it, and you get better fast. Built for pace: You're comfortable in a fast-moving, high-performance environment. Software exposure is a bonus: Any experience with Xero, MYOB, or similar helps, but it's not essential. We'll train you.
What You'll Be Doing
Accounts Payable: Process supplier invoices, run payment runs, reconcile statements, and keep vendor accounts clean and paid on time. Accounts Receivable: Raise and issue invoices, follow up outstanding payments, allocate receipts, and keep the debtor ledger tight. Reconciliations: Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards, catch discrepancies early, and keep the ledgers accurate. Month-End Support: Assist the Finance Manager with month-end close, journals, accruals, and reporting. Finance Admin: Keep records, filing, and documentation organised so nothing slips through the cracks. Growing Scope: As you earn it, take on more: management reporting, budgeting support, process improvement, and exposure across the wider group.
What Success Looks Like
In your first 12 months:
AP and AR run accurately and on time, with clean records and no missed deadlines. Reconciliations are completed on schedule with minimal errors. The Finance Manager trusts you with more responsibility each month.
HARD NON-NEGOTIABLES
You're accurate. In finance, small mistakes cost real money. You treat every number like it matters. You're reliable. When you say it's done, it's done. You're coachable. You want to learn and you act on feedback fast. You bring it every day. Energy, ownership, and follow-through are not optional.
This Is Not The Role For You If
You want a quiet nine-to-five to coast through. You need constant hand-holding to get things done. You think AP and AR are beneath you, rather than the foundation they are. You're not genuinely interested in building a career in finance.
What You Get
A real learning seat: Direct mentorship from our Finance Manager and exposure to the full finance function, not a faceless grad pool. Career growth: A clear runway to take on more responsibility as the group scales. Modern tools: A clean, current tech stack, none of the outdated processes you'll find elsewhere. A culture that celebrates wins: Team events, company trips, and a high-performance team that has your back.
One More Thing
We hire for hunger, ownership, and alignment. We move fast, we hold a high standard, and we back people who want to win. If you're after a comfortable seat to hide in, this isn't it. If you want to learn fast and build a real career in finance, we should talk.
How To Apply
Send us:
Your CV A short Loom video (2 minutes max) telling us who you are, why finance, and why Henderson.
We care more about your attitude, sharpness, and hunger than a perfect resume. Show us those.
