Womenswear Designer

We’re looking for a trend-focused Womenswear Designer to join the team at General Pants!

This is a hands-on role across the full product journey: trend, concept, silhouette, fabrication, graphic art and colour, through to tech packs, fittings and overseeing a smooth transition into production. You’ll work with our Management, Buying, Planning, Design and Production teams, our garment technicians and our offshore suppliers to take a style from concept to best seller.

The successful candidate will live and breathe domestic and international trends for 16–25 year olds, with the ability to spot emerging directions and execute product concepts with strong commercial instincts and technical know-how.

What You Will Be Doing

• Design monthly injection and seasonal ranges that look like us and nobody else, working across all product categories (denim, tops, dresses, knits, outerwear, swimwear, accessories)
• Develop concepts, silhouettes, colour palettes, fabrications and design details from scratch
• Read trend through our customer’s eyes rather than reproducing whatever is currently on every rack in the country
• Evolve the styles already working for us while introducing ideas that scare us slightly
• Own the technical development of your styles from concept through to production, working to the critical path and hitting your milestones
• Create detailed tech packs and specs for offshore suppliers that are clear enough to leave no room for improvisation
• Select fabrics, trims and finishes that suit the design, the customer and the price point, backed by real knowledge of construction, fit, pattern making and production techniques
• Run fittings with our garment technicians, landing product swiftly and executing form, function and proportion
• Work directly with offshore suppliers, managing product development and communicating design intent precisely while solving construction, costing and product execution issues
• Design to price and margin, read sell-through and customer feedback, and build ranges that stay balanced across category, colour, fabrication and price
• Work closely with our CEO, Head of Product, and Buying and Planning teams to curate ranges and follow line plans

About you

• 2–3 years designing womenswear for a commercially driven brand or retailer
• Strong technical knowledge of construction, fit and fabrication, with the ability to build detailed tech packs on your own
• Experience working directly with offshore factories and garment technicians
• Strong Adobe Illustrator skills
• A genuine eye for colour, graphic art, proportion and detail
• Organised enough to run multiple styles against a critical path without things slipping
• Comfortable in a small, fast team where everyone owns their part
