About the Role 

We’re looking for an experienced SMP Estimator to join our growing team. Based in either Brisbane, Toowoomba or Chinchilla, you’ll play a pivotal role in preparing accurate, commercially competitive estimates for a diverse range of structural, mechanical and piping (SMP) projects, working closely with operations, suppliers and clients to help secure new work. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced estimator, or a technically strong engineer who has transitioned into estimating, to join a collaborative team where your expertise will directly influence project success. 

As the SMP Estimator, you’ll manage the estimating process from enquiry through to tender submission and customer follow-up. Working in a fast-paced environment, you’ll develop accurate cost estimates, build strong supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver commercially competitive tenders estimate. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare accurate and commercially competitive estimates and tender submissions for SMP projects. 

• Review technical drawings and specifications, completing detailed material take-offs and cost estimates. 

• Source pricing, negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors, and secure competitive lead times. 

• Prepare professional quotation documentation and manage tender submissions from start to finish. 

• Liaise with customers following quotation submission to clarify requirements and support successful tender outcomes. 

• Work collaboratively with operations and project teams to ensure estimates align with delivery capability and business objectives. 

What You’ll Bring:

• Demonstrated experience estimating within Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP) or heavy fabrication environments. 

• Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, materials and relevant Australian standards. 

• Ability to independently prepare complete estimates, quotations and tender documentation. 

• Experience interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation. 

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage with suppliers, subcontractors and clients. 

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

This role will involve occasional travel to workshops and projects sites, providing the opportunity to collaborate with teams across the Group, support estimating activities and build a strong understanding of project delivery.
