ICYS Ipswich Community Youth Service is seeking experienced Youth Case Workers and Case Managers to join our growing team.

We currently have three opportunities across three of our specialist youth programs, supporting young people experiencing complex challenges including disengagement from education, homelessness, family and social disconnection, involvement with the Youth Justice system and other factors impacting their safety, wellbeing and future.

The opportunities

Case Manager – PIVOT

PIVOT is ICYS' specialised alternative learning program supporting predominantly 10–16-year-olds who are disengaged from mainstream schooling and may be involved with the Youth Justice system.

This role provides holistic, trauma-informed case management alongside a multidisciplinary team, with a strong focus on stabilising circumstances, strengthening wellbeing and identity, engaging families and kin, navigating complex service systems and supporting young people to transition back into education, training, employment or other positive pathways.

Intensive Case Support Worker – Community Youth Response & Diversion (CYRD)

Our CYRD program works with young people aged 10–17 who are interacting with police, courts and/or the statutory Youth Justice system and who may be at high risk of offending or reoffending.

You'll provide intensive case management focused on understanding and addressing the individual factors contributing to offending behaviour, engaging young people and families in their own environments, coordinating supports and working closely with Youth Justice, Police, Education, cultural services and other key partners.

Youth Case Worker – Ipswich Youth Support Service (IYSS)

Our Ipswich Youth Support Service provides individualised support to young people aged 8–21 experiencing a broad range of challenges.

You'll provide practical, planned and individualised case management to young people experiencing issues such as family conflict, homelessness, disengagement from education or employment, harm, offending behaviour and cultural disconnection. The role works across systems including Youth Justice, Child Safety, Health, Education and Police to coordinate responses for young people with multiple and complex needs.

What the roles have in common

Whichever team you join, this isn't a desk-based case management role.

You'll build genuine relationships with young people, meet them where they're at, understand what's happening around them and work alongside them to create achievable pathways forward.

Depending on the program and young person's needs, that could mean:

• providing intensive, strengths-based and trauma-informed case management;

• undertaking comprehensive needs, risk and safety assessments;

• developing practical case plans with young people rather than for them;

• supporting young people experiencing multiple and complex challenges;

• engaging families, carers, kin and other significant people;

• providing outreach support in homes, schools, community settings and other places young people feel safe;

• advocating for young people and helping them navigate complex systems;

• coordinating with Youth Justice, Child Safety, Education, Police, health services and community organisations;

• connecting young people with education, training, employment, housing, cultural and specialist supports;

• responding confidently and appropriately when young people are experiencing crisis or elevated risk; and

• maintaining professional case notes, case plans, assessments and program documentation.

Across all three roles, we're looking for practitioners who understand that effective case management starts with relationship, trust, persistence and seeing the young person beyond the challenges that brought them to our service.

About you

We're particularly interested in hearing from experienced practitioners who can bring strong professional judgement and established case management skills to our teams.

You'll ideally have:

Qualifications and experience

A minimum Diploma-level qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Human Services, Social Work or a related discipline. Relevant university qualifications will be highly regarded.

You'll also bring demonstrated experience supporting young people with complex needs through a strengths-based, culturally-safe case management approach.

We're looking for applicants with substantial human services/youth work experience, with knowledge or experience of the Education system and/or Youth Justice system highly regarded.

Practice capability

You'll need to be confident in:

• trauma-informed and strengths-based practice;

• engaging young people who may be reluctant to engage with services;

• working with complexity and competing priorities;

• risk assessment, safety planning and responding appropriately to crisis;

• maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality;

• advocacy and systems navigation;

• collaborating effectively with government and community stakeholders; and

• producing high-quality professional case documentation.

You'll also bring the ability to work respectfully across cultures and an understanding of culturally safe practice, including working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, families and communities.
