Mechanical Draftsperson

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Toowoomba-based Mechanical Draftsperson to join the Engineering Team at HLR Solutions and be involved across a diverse range of mechanical, process, manufacturing and transport projects. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with other members of the Engineering Team and the broader company, you will be required to undertake preparation of fabrication, general arrangement, assembly and detailed drawings, development and updating of 3D models and mechanical assemblies, and preparation of workshop-ready fabrication and manufacturing drawings.

Key responsibilities

• Preparation of fabrication, general arrangement, assembly and detailed drawings
• Development and updating of 3D models and mechanical assemblies
• Preparation of workshop-ready fabrication and manufacturing drawings
• Preparation of Bills of Materials and material take-offs
• Drafting of modular process and utility systems, piping arrangements, mechanical equipment, fabricated structures and transport equipment
• Turning engineering sketches, mark-ups and concepts into accurate, practical designs
• Updating drawings and models as designs develop
• Working directly with engineers, suppliers and fabricators to resolve design and manufacturing queries
• Attending workshops or sites from time to time to measure equipment, verify details or assist with as-built drawings
• Contributing practical ideas around fabrication, assembly, access, maintenance and manufacturability

About you

• Certificate IV, Diploma or equivalent qualification in Engineering Drafting, Mechanical Design or a related discipline
• 2D and 3D CAD experience
• Experience preparing fabrication, assembly and manufacturing drawings
• Experience preparing Bills of Materials and material take-offs
• Strong mechanical aptitude and genuine interest in design
• Practical understanding of steel fabrication and manufacturing processes
• Strong spatial awareness and attention to detail
• Good problem-solving skills and practical nous
• Ability to work autonomously or in a team environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
