Voluntary Board Director - Finance and Risk

We're recruiting a new Voluntary Board Director - Finance and Risk, to help shape the future of AWLQ 

For more than 67 years, AWLQ has been there for animals in need. Over that time, we've seen something important: the wellbeing of people and animals is deeply connected. When families are supported, pets are more likely to stay safe, healthy and in the loving homes where they belong.

Every day, we see the incredible lengths people go to for the animals they love. But we also see the challenges many families face – financial hardship, housing insecurity, illness, family violence and unexpected life events that can put both people and pets at risk.

That's why we're working towards a future where support comes before crisis, people and pets are supported together, and communities are empowered to create brighter futures for all.

As part of our Board succession planning and in consideration of our strategic priorities and future ambitions, we are seeking an individual with expertise in Finance and Risk, to help strengthen the financial sustainability, governance and accountability of AWLQ.

We are looking for someone who can bring:

• Significant senior-level finance, audit or accounting experience
• A recognised accountancy qualification or equivalent professional expertise
• Strong understanding of governance, risk and assurance
• Experience influencing decisions at executive or Board level
• The ability to interpret and constructively challenge financial information

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute strategic insight, specialist expertise and constructive challenge at Board level, helping to support the long-term sustainability of AWLQ and our Vision that every companion animal has a safe and caring environment where their needs are respected and met.

As a Board Director, you'll play an important role in helping to shape the strategic direction, governance and future success of one of Australia's leading animal welfare charities.

We're keen to hear from people with senior leadership experience who are passionate about making a meaningful difference and bringing their skills to a purpose-led organisation.

Closing date: 25 August 2026

Time commitment: Approximately 1 day per month, including Bi-monthly Board meetings, Sub-committee participation and occasional events.
