My Australian Career One of Australia's leading suppliers of sheet metal steel fabrications, is seeking an experienced Fitter to join its team on a full-time basis Position Overview: The Fitterwill fit, assemble, grind and shape metal parts and subassemblies to fabricate production machines and other equipment, and will assemble, install, maintain and repair mechanical equipment and steel structures  working from engineering drawings and specifications to ensure precision fit, function and compliance with quality and safety standards. Opportunity to work across a wide range of steel and sheet metal projects. Task & responsibilities Study engineering drawings, specifications and job sheets to determine suitable materials, methods, sequence of operations and machine settings Set up and operate machine tools, including lathes, to turn, mill, bore and shape metal stock and castings to fine tolerances Fit fabricated metal parts into products and assemble metal parts and subassemblies to produce machines, equipment and steel structures Grind and shape metal components using hand tools, power tools and specialised machinery to achieve fine tolerances Check fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments Set guides, stops and other controls on machining tools, and set up cutting and shaping tools and dies in machines and presses Cut, thread, bend and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines as required for assembled equipment Diagnose faults in mechanical equipment and machinery, and carry out operational maintenance, overhaul and repair of mechanical parts and fluid power equipment May erect machines and equipment on-site Qualification & experience Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining) (MEM30219), or equivalent trade qualification, or at least 3 years' relevant work experience in lieu of formal qualification Proven experience as a Fitter and Turner in a steel fabrication, manufacturing or engineering environment, performing fitting, assembly, machining and turning duties Sound knowledge of fitting, assembly, machining and mechanical maintenance techniques Ability to read and work from technical drawings and specifications Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced workshop
