AXIS is currently seeking an experienced Fitter / Machinist to join our team.

About the Role

We’re after a capable, hands-on tradesperson with strong machining skills who takes pride in producing quality work. The successful applicant will be confident operating both CNC and manual lathes, with CNC programming experience considered a strong advantage.

This is a varied, hands-on role involving fitting and machining work, including:

• Setting up and operating CNC lathes

• Manual machining using lathes, mills and other workshop machinery

• Fitting, assembly and repair of mechanical components

• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings

• Working accurately to drawings, dimensions and tolerances

• Using precision measuring equipment to inspect finished components

• Fault finding and problem solving

• General workshop duties

• Maintaining a high standard of workmanship and safety

About You

Essential skills and experience:

• Trade qualification as a Fitter & Turner / Fitter Machinist or equivalent

• Experience setting up and operating CNC lathes

• Strong manual lathe machining skills

• Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings

• Good understanding of machining tolerances and precision measuring equipment

• Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Reliable with a strong work ethic

• Commitment to quality and workplace safety

• Current Driver's License

• Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one

Desirable skills and experience:

• Ability to program CNC lathes

• Experience with manual milling machines

• Broader CNC machining experience

• Experience with fitting, assembly and mechanical repair work
