AXIS is currently seeking an experienced Fitter / Machinist to join our team.
About the Role
We’re after a capable, hands-on tradesperson with strong machining skills who takes pride in producing quality work. The successful applicant will be confident operating both CNC and manual lathes, with CNC programming experience considered a strong advantage.
This is a varied, hands-on role involving fitting and machining work, including:
Setting up and operating CNC lathes
Manual machining using lathes, mills and other workshop machinery
Fitting, assembly and repair of mechanical components
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Working accurately to drawings, dimensions and tolerances
Using precision measuring equipment to inspect finished components
Fault finding and problem solving
General workshop duties
Maintaining a high standard of workmanship and safety
About You
Essential skills and experience:
Trade qualification as a Fitter & Turner / Fitter Machinist or equivalent
Experience setting up and operating CNC lathes
Strong manual lathe machining skills
Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings
Good understanding of machining tolerances and precision measuring equipment
Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable with a strong work ethic
Commitment to quality and workplace safety
Current Driver's License
Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one
Desirable skills and experience:
Ability to program CNC lathes
Experience with manual milling machines
Broader CNC machining experience
Experience with fitting, assembly and mechanical repair work
