THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you an experienced leader looking for the opportunity to build and shape a newly created specialist business unit?

The Western Australia Police Force is seeking a motivated and strategic leader to manage the newly established Road Policing Exhibits (Alcohol and Drug) Unit within Road Policing Strategic Division. The unit has been created in response to significant growth in workload and increasing operational demands associated with blood and oral fluid testing across Western Australia.

Previously operating as part of Breath and Drug Operations, the function has evolved into a standalone unit responsible for the end-to-end management, quality assurance and governance of blood and oral fluid exhibits obtained under road traffic legislation. The role provides a unique opportunity to influence how these services are delivered into the future and to establish the systems, processes and culture of a new team.

As the Exhibits (Alcohol and Drug) Manager, you will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for supporting frontline road policing operations through the management of exhibits, statewide oral fluid testing consumables, quality assurance processes, stakeholder engagement and contract oversight. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including operational police, prosecutors, forensic service providers and government agencies, ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of critical road safety programs. 

THE ROLE

This is a hands-on leadership position that combines operational management, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.

You will oversee the daily operations of the Road Policing Exhibits (Alcohol and Drug) Unit while providing leadership and direction across a broad range of responsibilities. The role is responsible for ensuring robust governance, quality assurance and chain-of-custody processes for blood and oral fluid exhibits, supporting the lawful and efficient progression of matters through the justice system.

As the unit manager, you will lead a team responsible for exhibit management, procurement and distribution of oral fluid testing consumables, data management and reporting, service delivery improvement and stakeholder liaison. You will also contribute to strategic planning, future workforce and resource requirements, risk management activities and the ongoing development of policies and procedures associated with alcohol and drug exhibits.

Success in this role will require strong leadership, sound judgement and the ability to build productive relationships across a wide range of stakeholders. You will be comfortable operating in an environment where operational priorities, legislative requirements and service delivery outcomes intersect, while maintaining a strong focus on accountability, governance and continuous improvement.
