Reporting to the Senior Manager Engineering - Design, you will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary electrical design team, ensuring resources are effectively managed, priorities are aligned with business objectives, and project deliverables are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders, clients, consultants, and project teams to deliver innovative and practical engineering solutions while continuously improving design standards, processes, and systems across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and team management: Lead and manage the Electrical Design team, including resource planning, scheduling, workload allocation, performance management, mentoring, coaching, career development, recruitment support, workforce planning and subcontractor management.
- Project delivery and planning: Ensure successful delivery of electrical design outputs across multiple projects by establishing priorities, timelines and delivery plans aligned with project and business objectives.
- Design governance and compliance: Develop and implement electrical design strategies, standards, procedures and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, statutory regulations, mine site requirements and company policies.
- Safety, quality and reviews: Participate in and lead engineering and safety reviews, including Safety in Design, HAZOP, CHAZOP, HAZID, CRAW and client design reviews, while promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, accountability and operational excellence.
- Stakeholder and authority coordination: Collaborate with internal business units, external consultants, utilities, regulatory bodies and clients, including reviewing and managing network and utility connection submissions with relevant Pacific Energy departments.
- Site and operational support: Support project execution during key site milestones, commissioning activities and design verification stages, and assist Operations & Maintenance teams with technical support and issue resolution.
- Department performance: Manage Electrical Design departmental performance and KPIs.
About You
- A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and extensive industry experience, or a trade-based electrical qualification with significant relevant experience.
- Proven leadership experience managing engineering, design, or technical teams.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering, drafting, and design principles.
- Experience in power generation, renewable energy, microgrids, or related energy infrastructure projects.
- Excellent project planning, resource management, and organisational skills.
- Strong technical writing and documentation capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience working within Australian Standards, statutory requirements, and industry regulations.
- Knowledge of Quality Assurance and Safety In Design Principles.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills.
- Outstanding problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- A proactive, positive, and adaptable leadership style.
