Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is the peak body for unions in Victoria. We are seeking to employ a full-time Project Industrial Coordinator for our Workplaces for Women project to advance gender equality in gender segregated industries.

This is a full-time fixed term position back-filling extended leave until 10 September 2027.

The Workplaces for Women Project promotes gender equality in gender segregated industries to create workplaces where women are safe, respected, equal and included. The Project conducts outreach and development of women workers and workplace leaders, develops strategic networks, conducts and publishes research, develops resources and cutting edge materials, develops and delivers relevant training to suit a range of audiences. 

The Project works with VTHC’s affiliate unions, relevant industry stakeholders, the ACTU and other state-based Trades and Labour Councils.

We are seeking to employ a Project Industrial Coordinator who wants to contribute to strategic efforts to advance gender equality in gender segregated, historically male dominated industries.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Conducting industrial research and developing best practice industrial resources, including drafting research briefs, enterprise agreement provisions and industrial policy
• Leading development of strategic industrial resource development related to recent workplace relations reforms
• Writing, developing materials and approving industrial resources suitable for multiple different audiences
• Coordinating and consulting with key external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the Project
• Maintaining administrative and recording systems to support Project outcomes and contributing to compliance and quality control functions
• Supporting Lead and other key staff in delivery of the Project

• Liaising with the ACTU and Trades and Labour Councils on delivery of the Project

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, gender equality and trade union principles
• Deep current understanding of industrial and legislative frameworks relevant to working women including the Fair Work Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Gender Equality Act, discrimination law and related industrial legislation
• Ability to lead and contribute to strategic industrial policy development and prepare relevant resources
• An understanding of gender inequality and its impacts in the workplace and beyond, including barriers to employment and retention
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to develop rapport with a variety of people including workers, affiliate unions, employers and other industry stakeholders
• Excellent written, verbal communication, presentation and technical skills
• Ability to set priorities when faced with competing demands and to think critically and creatively to solve problems
• Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, including collecting, managing and reporting data
• Ability to work with and maintain relationships with a range of partners, including affiliate unions, employers and other industry stakeholders
• A relevant degree
• Experience working at a trade union or similar including experience bargaining, negotiating and drafting industrial research and agreements
• Knowledge of specific issues for workers from diverse backgrounds
• Experience delivering projects to deadline

This is position is a fixed term, full-time position set at Level 7/8 of our classification structure dependent on experience (approx. $111,000 - 122,800). 

The position is backfilling a period of extended leave and ends on 10 September 2027. Victorian Trades Hall has an Enterprise Agreement with a monthly RDO (in recognition of occasional additional hours).

This position is based at Victorian Trades Hall in Carlton.

This position reports to the Assistant Secretary and Secretary through Project Leadership. Some irregular hours, regional and interstate travel may be required in this role.
