About Restore Home Modifications

Restore Home Modifications is a specialist home modification building company creating safe, accessible and functional homes for older people and people living with disability.

We are different from a traditional residential builder. Our business combines building expertise with Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy experience, and we work closely with OTs and other allied health professionals to deliver modifications that support safety, independence and long-term usability.

Our work ranges from smaller accessibility modifications through to ramps, access works and major bathroom renovations.

We are now looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter to join our Melbourne team.

The role

This is a full-time, hands-on position reporting directly to Gianni, our Builder.

You will take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of building works on site while remaining actively involved on the tools.

You’ll be expected to:

• Carry out high-quality hands-on carpentry including framing, fitting, cabinetry, trims and general building works

• Read and interpret plans, drawings, specifications and project scopes

• Coordinate and supervise carpenters, apprentices and subcontractors

• Plan upcoming works, labour, materials and site requirements

• Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail

• Check works for quality, accuracy and compliance

• Troubleshoot site issues and find practical solutions

• Coordinate demolition, preparation, construction and installation works

• Monitor site safety and ensure OH&S requirements are followed

• Keep sites clean, organised and safe

• Communicate progress, delays and issues clearly with the Builder and office team

• Identify potential scope variations before additional work proceeds

• Complete quality-control and defect-rectification checks

• Support a professional and respectful handover to the client

The position description places particular emphasis on site leadership, quality control, scheduling, materials, problem-solving and managing work through to completion.

About you

This role will suit an experienced carpenter who takes pride in their work and is comfortable taking ownership of a site.

You must have:

• A carpentry trade qualification

• Minimum 10 years’ carpentry experience

• Strong residential construction experience

• Excellent practical carpentry skills – you must still enjoy being on the tools

• The ability to confidently read plans and specifications

• Experience supervising other trades, carpenters or apprentices

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Excellent attention to detail and finish quality

• A solid understanding of site safety and construction compliance

• Good communication skills and the ability to deal respectfully with clients in their homes

• The ability to work independently and make sensible decisions on site

• A current driver licence

• Be based in Melbourne

Experience in renovations, bathrooms, accessibility modifications or occupied residential environments would be highly regarded.

We need someone who notices things, takes ownership, thinks ahead, maintains standards and communicates early when something isn’t right.

You need to be equally comfortable picking up the tools and leading the site.
