The Carbon Market Institute is an independent, membership-based industry association representing the breadth and depth of the carbon market ecosystem. Their mission is to accelerate the use of market-based solutions to support best-practice decarbonisation aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
CMI’s new strategy focuses on ensuring carbon and other environmental markets play an effective and trusted role in directing finance towards decarbonisation and delivering broader nature-positive, cultural, economic and resilience outcomes.
The Role
CMI is seeking an experienced Manager, Carbon and Nature to deliver a diverse program of work spanning carbon market policy, integrity, nature markets and stakeholder engagement.
Reporting to the Director of Markets, this role will play a central part in shaping policy improvements, supporting CMI members and strengthening the integrity and interoperability of carbon and nature markets across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Deliver CMI’s ACCU Scheme reform implementation program.
Lead engagement on scheme integrity, method development, crediting approaches and measurement frameworks.
Convene CMI’s Carbon Project Development Working Group and International Working Group.
Support member-led working groups and taskforces.

Build relationships with government, regulators, industry participants and other key stakeholders.
Support First Nations engagement and leadership within the carbon market.
Develop CMI’s nature markets work program, including policy, advocacy, research, communications and events.
Help advance carbon and nature market alignment, private-sector demand, certification, financing and investment.
Support international market cooperation, trade and development initiatives across the Asia-Pacific.
Monitor market, technology, policy and regulatory developments and track market health.
About you
You are a capable and adaptable carbon market professional who can combine technical understanding with strong stakeholder engagement, policy development and project delivery skills.
You will bring:
At least five years’ experience relevant to the supply side of carbon markets.
A solid understanding of the Australian carbon market and ACCU Scheme.
Exceptional stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills.
Experience building trusted partnerships across diverse stakeholder groups.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to translate complex technical information into accessible insights and practical frameworks.
A successful record of leading projects from inception through to delivery.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and prioritisation skills.
Initiative and confidence working in evolving or ambiguous environments.
Relevant qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, natural resource management, environmental economics or a related field.
Experience in carbon crediting methods, emissions-reduction measurement, natural capital or TNFD-aligned reporting will be highly regarded. Experience engaging Traditional Owners, land managers and regional stakeholders would also be valuable.
