Education Assistant - Special Needs

We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs – Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise in the 2026 school year and up until Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

We currently have the following positions available, commencing as soon as possible, which we hope to fill from this process:

• 2 x permanent full-time position
• 1 x fixed-term full-time position

Karratha PS is an inclusive mainstream school with an endorsed Education Support program for students with additional needs. As part of a collaborative and inclusive learning environment, you will play an integral part in both an Education Support program that caters for students with high educational needs, as well as supporting students in need within the context of mainstream classrooms.

Our Education Support program is fluid and dynamic, specialising in education for students with additional educational needs who require substantial teaching and learning adjustments. The Role

Karratha PS is seeking committed and passionate applicants who are dedicated to supporting students with a diverse range of additional needs, including autism, intellectual disability, physical disability, sensory impairments, complex behaviours and toileting requirements.

Successful applicants will be adaptable, flexible and confident in supporting students across a range of abilities and multi-age cohorts. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute positively to a supportive school environment is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of teaching staff, suitable applicants will ideally:

• Support students under the direction of the classroom teacher.
• Implement individualised education programs tailored to student needs.
• Support students in developing communication skills and accessing their education through the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
• Provide informed feedback on student progress and contribute to the evaluation of programs and achievement of goals.
• Contribute positively to a professional, collaborative and supportive team environment.
• Knowledge of the Team Teach is highly desirable.
• Knowledge and experience in implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies and Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) are highly desirable

1. Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
2. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
