About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for a recent fashion design graduate who wants to build their career in activewear design and product development.
Working closely with our Founder and Design team, you'll be involved in the creative process from the very beginning: researching trends, developing concepts, creating mood boards, sketching new silhouettes, producing CADs and helping transform initial ideas into commercially viable products.
You'll have the opportunity to contribute your own creative ideas while developing an understanding of how a collection progresses from concept → design → sampling → fitting → production → launch.
We're looking for someone who has a strong creative eye, understands the Aver aesthetic and is excited by the opportunity to conceptualise new products and contribute fresh ideas to future collections.
Design & Concept DevelopmentA key focus of this role will be supporting the creative development of Aver's upcoming collections.
Responsibilities will include:
Research current and emerging fashion, activewear, colour, fabric and lifestyle trends.
Develop creative concepts and ideas for upcoming Aver collections.
Create mood boards, colour stories, fabric direction and collection concepts.
Research competitor and international market trends to identify new product opportunities.
Assist in developing seasonal and capsule collection themes that align with the Aver brand.
Sketch and conceptualise new activewear silhouettes, garments and design details.
Create accurate CAD drawings and technical garment illustrations using Adobe Illustrator.
Explore new fabrics, textures, finishes, colours and trims that could be introduced into future collections.
Consider both creativity and commercial viability when developing new products.
Once concepts are approved, you'll help turn those ideas into physical products.
You will:
Translate approved designs into detailed CADs, tech packs and product specifications.
Create and update tech packs with measurements, construction details, fabrics, trims, colour ways and artwork.
Assist with selecting suitable fabrics and trims for each design.
Work with suppliers to communicate design concepts and technical requirements.
Review initial samples against the original design and identify required changes.
Participate in fit sessions and sample reviews.
Record fit comments and communicate design and construction amendments.
Review fabric, colour, trims, branding and garment finishes throughout the sampling process.
Help ensure the final garment maintains the integrity of the original design concept.
Assist with approving samples and preparing styles for bulk production.
Maintain collection boards, CAD libraries and product development documents.
While this position has a strong design and product development focus, you'll also gain exposure to the production process.
Responsibilities may include:
Tracking samples and development timelines.
Communicating with offshore suppliers regarding samples and design amendments.
Supporting production and quality-control processes.
Ensuring approved design specifications are correctly reflected in bulk production.
Working with the wider team to help ensure collections are delivered and launched on time.
Recently completed or currently completing a qualification in Fashion Design, Fashion & Textiles or a related discipline.
A strong portfolio demonstrating creative concept development and technical design skills.
Strong ability to conceptualise original ideas and translate them into garment designs.
A strong eye for colour, proportion, silhouette, fabrication and garment details.
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Experience creating CADs, technical drawings and tech packs through university, internships or previous work.
Understanding of garment construction, fabrics and garment specifications.
Strong interest in activewear, fashion and women's apparel.
Ability to research trends while developing ideas that remain unique and relevant to the Aver brand.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Confident written and verbal communication.
Ability to take creative direction and confidently contribute your own ideas.
A proactive attitude and genuine willingness to learn.
Comfortable working collaboratively within a small, fast-paced and growing team.
If you're a creative fashion graduate who loves conceptualising new ideas, designing garments and seeing those ideas become real products, we'd love to hear from you.
