About the role
Join a small, established accounting practice where you can build a career — not just process tax returns.
We are a small, professional accounting and business advisory firm based in Albany Creek, providing accounting, taxation, compliance and business advisory services to a diverse range of small and medium-sized businesses and investment clients.
We are looking for an Accountant with 4+ years of Australian public practice experience to join our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is technically capable, commercially minded and ready to take the next step in their career, with a genuine pathway toward Senior Accountant and ultimately Manager.
What makes this role different?
We understand that the best accountants don't just want to sit behind a computer preparing tax returns all day.
We want you to develop genuine relationships with clients, understand their businesses and become involved in the decisions that help them succeed.
About the role
Your role will primarily involve managing a portfolio of clients and preparing high-quality accounting and taxation work, including:
Preparation of financial statements
Preparation and review of individual, company, trust and other entity tax returns
BAS and IAS preparation
Tax and accounting workpapers
Client reconciliations and financial reporting
Liaising directly with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
Assisting clients with accounting and taxation matters
Participating in client meetings
Assisting with business advisory work
Working with Xero, Xero Practice Manager, Xero Workpapers, Dext and Microsoft Excel
Supporting and reviewing the work of other team members as your experience develops
The role will be tailored to your experience and interests, with increasing responsibility and client exposure as you progress.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
Has at least 4 years' Australian public practice accounting experience
Has strong technical accounting and taxation knowledge
Is confident preparing financial statements and tax returns
Has experience with companies, trusts and individuals
Is comfortable dealing directly with clients
Can manage their own workload and meet deadlines
Has strong attention to detail
Is confident using Xero and Excel
Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
Is commercially minded and interested in understanding how businesses operate
Enjoys solving problems rather than simply following processes
Is interested in developing their business advisory skills
Is willing to take ownership of their work and client relationships
Has completed, is studying towards, or interested in undertaking, CA or CPA
Is looking for a long-term career opportunity rather than simply their next job
Being local matters to us
We are looking for someone who is genuinely local to North Brisbane or the surrounding suburbs.
We believe there are significant advantages to working close to home, and we want someone who sees themselves building a long-term career within our local business community.
You won't be expected to spend hours commuting into the CBD or working in a large corporate environment.
Instead, you'll be part of a small team where you'll know the people you work with, have direct access to the owner/CA and develop genuine relationships with your clients.
Career progression
We don't want to hire someone simply to fill a position.
For the right person, we see this role progressing from Accountant → Senior Accountant → Manager.
As you develop, you'll have the opportunity to take greater responsibility for your client portfolio, review work, mentor junior staff, participate in client meetings and become increasingly involved in business advisory and strategic client work.
What we offer
Genuine flexibility – we value outcomes, quality work and client service rather than simply being at your desk for set hours.
A reasonable workload – we believe in doing great work without creating an unnecessary "always busy" culture.
Direct access to the owner/CA – you'll work closely with an experienced Chartered Accountant and have support when you need it.
Real client exposure – you'll communicate directly with clients and become a trusted point of contact.
Advisory experience – opportunities to work with clients on forecasting, management reporting, tax planning and business performance.
A clear career pathway – we want to develop the right person into a Senior Accountant and, ultimately, a Manager.
CA/CPA support – if you're studying or looking to commence your CA or CPA, we'll support your professional development.
Interested?
If you're an experienced public-practice accountant who is looking for a role where you can develop professionally, work directly with clients, build advisory skills and have a genuine career pathway, we'd love to hear from you.
If you're tired of being just another number in a large accounting firm and would prefer to work somewhere where your contribution is recognised and your career can develop around your strengths, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
