At the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI), you’ll help connect the people of Western Australia. We’re a progressive organisation delivering safe, accessible, sustainable, and efficient transport services that support economic growth and enhance the lives of all Western Australians.
The Opportunity
Ready for a legal career that offers challenge, impact and balance?
The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) is expanding its regulatory and compliance functions and is seeking talented lawyers to join its Court and Tribunal Team.
This is a rare opportunity to practise in a dynamic and evolving area of government law. DTMI's responsibilities now extend beyond traditional transport matters and include complex compliance, enforcement and regulatory functions across the Maritime, Towing, On-Demand Transport and Road Law sectors.
As a member of the Court and Tribunal Team, you will be at the forefront of government enforcement activity, appearing in courts and tribunals, conducting prosecutions, managing appeals, advising investigators and decision-makers, and helping shape the interpretation and application of new and emerging legislation.
The legal issues are diverse, challenging and intellectually engaging. You will work with legislation that is evolving in response to changing industries, technologies and community expectations. This creates unique opportunities to develop expertise in regulatory litigation while contributing to the development of important public policy outcomes. The breadth and complexity of this work provides an excellent platform for professional growth, enabling lawyers to build highly sought-after skills, deepen their regulatory expertise, and accelerate their career development.
Whether you are an experienced litigator looking for high-quality advocacy work without the pressures of private practice, or an emerging lawyer keen to further build your courtroom skills under the guidance of experienced practitioners, this role offers exceptional professional development opportunities.
