About the role
Are you passionate about shaping the future of Social Work in the Tropics? James Cook University is seeking an inspiring academic to join our Social Work team and contribute to high‑quality teaching, impactful research, and meaningful community engagement across Northern Queensland.
As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, you’ll play a key role in developing and delivering innovative curriculum across our Social Work and Human Services programs, including the Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Human Services, and Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying). You’ll help create inclusive, student‑centred learning experiences that prepare graduates for contemporary practice in diverse communities.
You will also contribute to JCU’s research strengths by producing high‑quality publications, pursuing external funding opportunities, and supervising Higher Degree Research candidates. Your work will support strong partnerships with community agencies, field education providers, and professional bodies, helping to enhance placement opportunities and strengthen JCU’s presence across the region.

What you’ll bringA PhD (or pathway to completion) in Social Work, Human Services or a related discipline.
Successful experience teaching Social Work or cognate programs using contemporary, inclusive pedagogies across online, blended and face‑to‑face modes.
A developing or established research profile with ERA‑recognised publications and a clear research agenda.
Experience contributing to field education learning and supporting students on placement.
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively within teaching, research and community engagement teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to represent JCU’s Social Work programs externally.
