Assistant Director of Midwifery and/or Nursing

The Assistant Director of Nursing and/or Midwifery provides contemporary strategic, operational and professional nursing and / or midwifery leadership for Statewide Healthy Pregnancy, Kids and Families portfolios. The role employs professional and clinical expertise in collaboration with multidisciplinary stakeholders to progress chronic disease prevention, including supporting prevention reforms within statewide maternity and child and family health priorities and integration with broader government strategies.

Your key responsibilities:

In this role you will put in place the right elements for PSB to be able to coach and support others to deliver meaningful prevention health outcomes for children, young people and families, along with creating systems to sustain high quality preventive health delivery for children, young people and families in accordance with the Preventive Health Strategic Framework 2026-2035.

You'll fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Schedule 2, Nurses and Midwives (Queensland Health) Award - State 2015 - Generic Level Statements (GLS) Nurse Grade 10 and the Queensland Health commitments and values, in achievement of the organisational goals and Domains of Practice.

Your contribution will include:

• Accountable for Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and own standards, actions and the outcomes of own nursing and/or midwifery practice, professional/clinical advice given and for all delegated activities.
• Responsible for nursing and/or midwifery activities in the specified portfolio of chronic disease prevention in children, young people and families.
• Contribute to the planning, coordination, and development of policies, procedures, protocols and standards relating to the provision of safe and effective preventive health care.
• Collaborate in and/or coordinate the evaluation of nursing and/or midwifery practice, systems, process and policies.
• Experience in translation of preventive health evidence into practice within health services.

Role fit

The essential requirements for this role are:

• Extensive nursing and/or midwifery leadership skills including experience in leading clinical engagement, strategic collaboration and an understanding of clinical priorities for chronic disease prevention across pregnancy, early years and family health initiatives, including supporting prevention reforms within statewide maternity and child and family health priorities and integration with systems and broader government strategies.
• Proven track record of portfolio management skills and experience demonstrating translating clinical expertise into successful chronic disease prevention outcomes including planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in a health-related environment.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with an awareness of self, which facilitates engagement, innovation, resilience, and accountability.
