Senior Backend Developer

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, high-craft engineer with a genuine passion for backend architecture and web development. You will be a senior developer responsible for building and evolving backend systems that power our growing suite of products, working across both established platforms and new AI-driven initiatives. You should excel in Python web development, have a strong architectural mindset, and be comfortable working alongside modern AI-assisted development workflows while retaining full ownership of code quality and direction.
ResponsibilitiesDesign and build clean, high-quality, high-performance backend systems in PythonDevelop and support web applications, APIs, database integration, and new functionality across Uptick's product suiteContribute to Uptick's AI-driven initiatives, including scheduling and inbox automation toolingUse AI-assisted development tools (Claude) as a core part of your workflow, while maintaining full understanding and ownership of the code producedCoordinate cross-functionally to ensure project delivery meets business objectives and quality standardsParticipate in code reviews and contribute to team-wide engineering standardsTake on architectural and refactoring work where needed, strengthening the long-term health of existing systems
QualificationsStrong, demonstrated experience with Python in a web development context, not just scripting or data-focused Python useExperience with Django strongly preferred; solid experience with other web frameworks (Flask, FastAPI, etc.) also consideredFull stack capability (TypeScript/React) highly regarded, though not requiredComfortable working with AI-assisted development tools as part of a modern engineering workflowAbility to multi-task, organise, and prioritise work across concurrent projects
