The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. About the role:
The Community Partnership Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the Community Service program, leading a team of Case Officers and developing productive and sustainable stakeholder relationships with community agencies that promote rehabilitation and community connection for young people.
Our programs address offending behaviour, build life skills, and link young people to services that promote accountability and rehabilitation. The legal mandate for Youth Justice is provided by the Youth Justice Act 2024
Key responsibilities include:
Manage the Community Service and Partnerships stream for the area, overseeing a team of case Officers, enhancing development and providing professional supervision
Proactively lead the development of productive and sustainable community service partnerships promoting rehabilitation and community supports
Prepare reports and briefings; review court reports and endorse court reports, advice and recommendations
Consult, network, negotiate and liaise with government and non‑government sector agencies and community groups on a range of issues that contribute to service delivery
Keep accurate and complete records of work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records
This role can be based at any youth justice location within the Barwon South West, Grampians or Loddon Mallee Region, with travel expected across these locations as required.
A full Victorian driver's licence and employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card are mandatory for this role.
About you:
Advanced understanding of the criminal justice system as it relates to young people, best practice case management principals and philosophy underpinning relevant legislation
Ability to build relationships with various community groups and community service providers to develop partnership strategies
Strong leadership capability in an operational environment, including staff management, service delivery and governance practices
Someone who seeks opportunities for continuous improvement and can resolve complex problems calmly
A relevant qualification in social work, youth work, psychology, human services, criminology, or criminal justice (desirable).
