About the role
Good cabinet makers have options. This one is worth knowing about.
We are recruiting for an established joinery business in Mordialloc with a strong team, serious projects and plenty of work ahead.
This is not a small workshop living from job to job.
The business produces around $12–15 million worth of joinery each year, with a team of around 10 cabinet makers, 8 installers and a substantial installation workforce operating across its projects.
They are established, busy and growing.
More importantly, they have built a workshop that good tradespeople actually want to stay in.
A team that genuinely backs each otherEveryone says they have a good culture.
This business can actually explain what that means.
The team is close. People help each other. If someone needs a hand, the rest of the workshop pitches in.
There is also a very simple approach to workplace drama: they don't want it.
They want good tradespeople who can have a laugh, work hard, help the person beside them and get on with the job without ego or unnecessary politics.
Management takes protecting that environment seriously.
If someone comes into the business and consistently causes problems for the rest of the team, they will deal with it rather than expecting everyone else to put up with it.
For someone coming from a workshop where the work might be good but the environment isn't, that matters.
The projects are worth getting excited aboutThe business works heavily across multi-residential projects throughout Melbourne and is expanding further into high-end commercial and office fit-outs.
And when they say high-end commercial, they mean it.
A single floor of an office project can contain around $2 million worth of joinery.
That means detailed work, interesting materials, curved units, laminating, custom pieces and cabinetry where the finish has to be right.
You're not joining a workshop to spend every day knocking together the same basic box.
There is volume, but there is also proper cabinet making.
They need people who can produce work quickly when programmes get busy without forgetting that the finished product still has to look top-notch.
There is plenty happeningThis is a fast-moving commercial environment.
Projects can ramp up quickly, builders can accelerate programmes and there will be periods where the workshop is pushing hard to get work out.
For someone who likes being busy, there is plenty of work here.
There can also be strong overtime opportunities when projects demand it, including longer days and occasional weekend work.
If you're the type of cabinet maker who would rather be busy than standing around wondering where the next job is coming from, you'll probably enjoy the pace.
They want someone for the long termThis isn't about finding another pair of hands for the next project.
They are looking for another experienced Cabinet Maker who can become part of the team.
Someone they can trust with a set of shop drawings.
Someone who understands the trade.
Someone who can jump onto straightforward production work when that's what the workshop needs, but who also has the skill to take on detailed laminating, curved units and higher-end cabinetry.
You don't need to know every machine in their workshop on day one.
CNC training can be provided.
What matters more is having strong fundamentals and enough experience that you can walk into a professional joinery workshop and contribute.
What you'll bringThey are ideally looking for a qualified Cabinet Maker with at least five years of post-trade experience who can:
Read and work independently from shop drawings
Manufacture cabinetry confidently from the bench
Laminate to a high standard
Build curved units
Operate panel saws and edge banders
Work across both detailed and higher-volume cabinetry
Keep your standards up when the workshop gets busy
Take ownership of your work
Work well with the people around you
Bring a good attitude without bringing an ego
CNC experience is useful, but it is not essential if the rest of your cabinet-making skills are strong.
What's on offer$40–$45 per hour depending on experience.
Full-time, permanent employment.
A stable business with a substantial pipeline of work.
High-end commercial and multi-residential projects.
Opportunity for overtime when programmes ramp up.
A workshop full of experienced tradespeople.
And a management team that genuinely cares about maintaining a good environment for the people already working there.
If you're already employed, we're not expecting you to move just because another cabinet-making job exists.
But if you're starting to think about what else is out there, this is the kind of business worth having a confidential conversation about.
Apply through SEEK or contact Tara on 0482 081 *** for a confidential chat.
