About the role
Come grow with us.
Balancing the world’s need for safe, reliable water with protecting this critical natural resource for the future requires a deep understanding of interconnected systems.
We work with clients across the entire project life cycle - from initial planning studies through final construction and operations and maintenance services — on both traditional and alternative project-delivery options (design-build, public-private partnerships and financing).
With a robust design and construction division, AECOM offers a unique perspective on designing projects that are fully constructible.
Everyone belongs at AECOM
We’re committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging - because great ideas come from diverse perspectives. AECOM is proud to be a Fortune 500 Most Admired Company , a WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality , # Work180 Equitable Workplace Awards 2025 Winner and an AWEI Bronze Tier LGBTQ+ Inclusive Employer .
How you’ll make a difference
In this role, you'll join a multidisciplinary Water Resources team and contribute to drainage network modelling and design, and water resources assessments across diverse projects in transport, defence, mining, and energy transition (including wind, solar, and BESS). You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams locally and nationally, while benefiting from mentoring by industry-leading specialists and opportunities to work across NSW and throughout Australia.
This position would likely suit an engineer with 3 - 7 years’ post-graduate experience looking to further develop their technical skills in a collaborative consultancy environment.
In this role, you will mainly support the delivery of drainage modelling and design packages for major transport and civil infrastructure projects. You will work on technically challenging projects that require practical, coordinated, and design-focused solutions across large road corridors.
What you'll be doing
Undertaking drainage network modelling and design for major road and transport infrastructure projects
Developing and documenting stormwater drainage systems, including pit and pipe networks, longitudinal drainage and corridor drainage solutions
Preparing design models, drawings, calculations and technical reports
Coordinating with broader civil, road, water and multidisciplinary design teams to achieve integrated project outcomes
Supporting the delivery of projects from planning and concept design through to detailed design
Contributing to proposal support and maintaining strong client service outcomes
Continuing to develop your technical skills, project delivery capability and local market knowledge
The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.
The qualities that help you thrive
Experience delivering work within a consulting, design or engineering environment, ideally 3-7 years
Demonstrated experience in drainage network modelling and drainage design, particularly for major transport or road corridor projects
Proficiency in 12d, DRAINS and AutoCAD
A sound understanding of drainage design principles for linear infrastructure and road corridor environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills
The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project team
Familiarity with relevant Australian drainage design standards and guidance
Exposure to hydrologic or hydraulic assessment tools that support drainage design outcomes
Why you’ll love working with us
Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, job-sharing and hybrid work options
Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year
Volunteer and representation leave
Flex public holidays – swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better
