Animal Care Assistant

The Role:

We’re seeking an animal care assistant to join our small team to work across multiple properties in and around Launceston. The Animal Care Assistant is responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of farm animals through daily care, feeding, cleaning, and monitoring. This role requires a compassionate individual with a strong work ethic who is comfortable working with livestock in an outdoor environment.

This is a casual position, approximately 10-20 hours per week.

Key Tasks:

• Feed and provide fresh water to all animals according to dietary schedules.

• Clean and maintain animal enclosures, barns, and pens to ensure a sanitary and safe environment.

• Monitor animal health, recognising signs of illness or distress, and report concerns to the Operations Coordinator or veterinarian.

• Assist in or lead routine health care tasks such as vaccinations, hoof trimming, and grooming.

• Support birthing and care for newborn animals as needed.

• Assist with moving and transporting animals between pastures or shelters.

• Maintain accurate records of animal health, feeding schedules, and treatments.

• Follow all farm safety guidelines and biosecurity measures.

• Perform additional farm tasks as needed, including basic maintenance and facility upkeep.

What We’re Looking For:

• Previous experience in animal care, farming, or a related field preferred.

• Enthusiasm and passion for animals.

• Physically fit and able to lift livestock feeds.

• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Knowledge of basic livestock handling and animal health care.

• A flexible and positive approach to challenges.

• Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
