The Role 

Help protect and enhance our community through effective investigations, compliance and enforcement.

We're looking for an experienced and highly motivated Investigations Officer to join our Regulatory Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a diverse range of investigations that contribute to community safety, environmental protection and regulatory compliance across Canterbury-Bankstown.

As an Investigations Officer, you'll independently manage investigations from initial assessment through to resolution. You'll gather and analyse evidence, conduct inspections, coordinate surveillance operations, prepare briefs of evidence and represent Council in legal proceedings where required.

Working within a collaborative and professional team, you'll apply a balanced approach of education, regulation and enforcement to achieve compliance outcomes while building positive relationships with residents, businesses and key stakeholders.

What you'll be working on

This includes, but is not limited to:

• Managing complex investigations and compliance matters from initial assessment through to resolution.
• Conducting inspections, evidence gathering and investigative activities relating to a broad range of regulatory matters.
• Coordinating and undertaking covert and overt surveillance operations to support investigations and enforcement outcomes.
• Preparing investigation reports, statements and briefs of evidence for legal proceedings and court matters.
• Issuing Notices, Orders, Penalty Infringement Notices and Court Attendance Notices in accordance with relevant legislation.
• Investigating matters relating to illegal dumping, pollution incidents, companion animals, development compliance, tree protection and other regulatory issues.
• Providing compliance advice and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive community and environmental outcomes.

What you'll bring

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Investigations or a related discipline and extensive job-related experience.
• Current Class C Driver's Licence.
• Demonstrated experience conducting investigations, including evidence gathering, analysis and enforcement activities.
• Experience in the deployment and management of covert and overt surveillance equipment to support investigations.
• Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act 1993, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Companion Animals Act 1998 and other relevant legislation.
• Demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve matters in a methodical, objective and timely manner.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to assess information and exercise sound judgement.
• Highly developed written communication, report writing and record management skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal, conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and build productive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

The salary range for this opportunity is from $97,327 (Grade G, Step 1) + 12% super + option of car allowance OR leaseback vehicle. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience.
