Cosmo Cranes & Rigging Pty Ltd The Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, coating and finishing cranes, crane decks, masts, jibs, steel components, plant, equipment and associated structures. The position involves inspecting and preparing surfaces, removing existing coatings and corrosion, repairing minor surface imperfections, preparing and mixing paints and protective coatings, applying primers and finishing coats, and inspecting completed work.

  Task & responsibilities JOB DUTIES Inspect cranes, crane decks, masts, jibs and steel components for rust, corrosion, damaged coatings and surface defects. Prepare surfaces by sanding, grinding, scraping, wire brushing and abrasive blasting prior to painting. Repair minor surface imperfections using suitable fillers and repair compounds.

Mix and apply primers, undercoats, topcoats and anti-corrosive coatings using brushes, rollers and appropriate coating application equipment. Conduct quality checks and remedial painting to ensure the required finish, coverage and protective coating. Maintain painting and blasting equipment in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.

Follow WHS procedures and use appropriate PPE when handling paints, solvents, coatings and abrasive blasting equipment. Maintain clean and safe work areas and support workshop activities associated with the painting, refurbishment and protective coating of cranes and associated equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES Delivering painting and protective coating work to the required quality standards and timeframes.

Ensuring crane, steel and equipment surfaces are properly prepared before coating application. Following coating specifications, product instructions and approved work procedures. Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area.

Reporting damaged surfaces, safety hazards and equipment faults as required. Working cooperatively with crane technicians, riggers and mechanics during crane refurbishment and maintenance activities. Participating in toolbox meetings, safety briefings and workplace training.

Qualification & experience QUALIFICATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Certificate III in Painting and Decorating or an equivalent relevant trade qualification, or equivalent relevant skills and experience. Minimum of 3 years' recent full-time equivalent experience as a Painter or in a closely related painting and protective coating role. Skilled in surface preparation (sanding, grinding, blasting) and application of primers, paints and protective coatings.

Knowledge of safe work practices with paints, solvents and blasting equipment. Strong attention to detail, quality workmanship and ability to work independently or in a team. About Company Cosmo is a family owned business that has been operating for 23 years.
