About the role
Pavement Technology Centre (PTC) is a leading pavement testing laboratory providing laboratory and field testing services to the asphalt construction industry. We are seeking a motivated and reliable Trainee Laboratory Technician to join our growing team.
This is an entry-level position, and no previous experience is required. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in laboratory testing and the civil construction industry.
About the RoleAs a Trainee Laboratory Technician, you will work in both our laboratory and on construction sites, learning to perform a range of tests on asphalt and pavement materials while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and safety.
This is a casual position with the opportunity to progress to a permanent full-time role for capable and committed employees.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform laboratory testing on asphalt and pavement materials.
Prepare, and process test samples.
Accurately record, analyse, and report test results.
Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a clean and safe work environment.
Assist with field testing and sample collection at construction sites.
Follow laboratory procedures, quality systems, and safety requirements.
Communicate professionally with clients, site supervisors, and team members.
Completed Year 12 or hold a Certificate or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques or a related field (preferred but not essential).
Hold a current Australian driver's licence (essential).
Possess good mathematical and problem-solving skills.
Have excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
Be physically fit and capable of manual handling.
Be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
Be confident working independently on construction sites after training.
Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
Be willing to work occasional night shifts and weekends when required.
Full on-the-job training with experienced technicians.

Exposure to major road and infrastructure projects across Victoria.
