Underground Manager

About the role

As Underground Manager, you will have overall operational responsibility for the safe and effective management of the underground mining operation. You will provide visible and accountable leadership across the underground workforce, ensuring strong alignment between operational execution, technical standards, contractor performance and business objectives. The role will suit an experienced underground mining leader who is comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, can build strong relationships with contractors and internal stakeholders, and has the technical capability to challenge conventional thinking and identify opportunities to improve the operation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strong, visible leadership across all aspects of underground mining operations.
• Maintain statutory responsibility and ensure the operation is managed in accordance with all relevant legislation, regulations, standards and site requirements.
• Lead the safe and effective delivery of underground mining activities against agreed production, development, cost and operational targets.
• Provide strong leadership and commercial oversight of underground mining contractors.
• Establish clear performance expectations, monitor contractor delivery and drive accountability against agreed KPIs.
• Work closely with Technical Services, and other operational teams to optimise mine performance.
• Ensure mine plans and schedules are practical, achievable and aligned with operational capability.
• Maintain a strong focus on ground control, ventilation, mine design, development, production and operational risk management.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, cost performance, mining methods and overall operational efficiency.
• Lead operational reviews, performance improvement initiatives and continuous improvement programs.

About you

• Statutory qualifications inclusive of First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency.
• Extensive underground hard rock mining experience, ideally within a high grade gold environment.
• Proven experience in senior operational or underground management roles.
• Demonstrated success managing underground mining contractors and holding contractors accountable for safety, productivity, cost and performance.
• Strong technical understanding across underground mining disciplines, including development, production, ground control, ventilation and mine planning.
• A demonstrated ability to translate technical plans and strategies into practical operational outcomes.
• Strong commercial and financial awareness, with the ability to manage costs and understand the drivers of mining performance.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A proactive and solutions focused approach to operational challenges.
• A commitment to developing people, building high performing teams and creating a culture of accountability.
