Sous Chef - Full Time

The Elgin Inn in Hawthorn is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and passionate trade qualified Sous Chef to complete our team. We pride ourselves on quality food, beverage, and customer service and are looking for an outstanding chef who has extensive experience in a variety of food operations.

The Position:

We are seeking a passionate professional that is energetic, organised and self-motivated with strong leadership qualities. In this role it will be your responsibility to assist the head chef with the daily operation of the kitchen, and really run the show in their absence, ensuring quality and consistency are maintained across the board.

Key duties:

• Ensuring food preparation, cooking and presentation is of a high standard at all times.

• Menu development and planning.

• Demonstrate, implement and maintain effective cost control strategies for both product and labour.

• Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with relevant regulatory authorities.

• Ensure HACCP and OHS compliance and maintain correct food safety procedures.

• Work independently and as part of a team to achieve specified objectives as determined by both venue and group stakeholders.

The Person:

Reporting to the Head Chef and General Manager you will be able to work a rotating roster over 4 ½  days including lunch and dinner.

• You must be passionate about food and able to lead by example, with drive, enthusiasm and attention to detail.

• You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to motivate and develop staff, and be adept at maintaining a positive team environment.

• You must have the ability to work under pressure.
